Players are of a different generation than when Parcells was here. It may be that they have to be motivated differently.
I guess the question I have is, what are the most disciplined teams in the league today, and what are their coaches like?

glimm, do we think these coaches don't address this? They know far better than we do how drive killing these mental mistakes can be and they don't turn a blind eye to them.

I think every player on that team knows the man that signs their checks makes the final call. How much did it take for McC and the OLC to get permission to bench Williams for too many penalties? These coaches do not have the authority to make that call.
If true and MM can’t bench a player then it’s sad. Maybe that’s why Elliot was allowed to keep playing while injured.

This team has been crying out for some discipline ever since Bill Parcells left. The unraveling of this team has been clearly evident with its penalty problems, pass drops, whining about those mean old refs, and a soft culture that allows and even fosters excuses and the lack of focus at critical moments.

We’ve heard many people for years saying this team needed some discipline- maybe even some healthy fear instilled in that locker room. Jimmy Johnson, Boomer Esiason, Bill Cowher, Tony Dungy, Peyton Manning, former Cowboys Roger Staubach, Drew Pearson, Charles Haley have all spoken publicly about it.

They ALL have said what this team needs is a strong HC who demands discipline and attention to detail. A true leader of men. I had hoped Big Mac was that guy. Clearly I was wrong in that hope.

But that kind of coach will never be allowed here again as long as Jerral Wayne Jones is breathing.

Whomever the next OC, it has to be a guy that comes in and says we need to revamp the running attack away from Zeke. And we need to replace half the lineman and start over. It has to be the focus going forward.

Or a Quarterback.

We’d still be playing if we had a QB who doesn’t go into a shell anytime a defense tightens up a little.
Brother I agree with you that Dak isn’t a great QB. But he is a good QB. He’s a second tier type- top 8-12 type.

But to me, even more importantly- no QB- not even the GOAT Tom Brady or the greats like Rodgers and Mahomes could take this team to the promised land. None of them. Because this owner will not allow this culture to be whipped into shape. He will not allow any coach to come in here and make this a real football team. It’s a circus. And no great QB could save this franchise because the sickness killing this team is much, much deeper than the QB situation.

The answer is to draft hard-nosed, disciplined players who play smart. We don't seem to care about discipline and football smarts. Just look at our last draft.

True. I recall seeing a clip where Belichick was visiting Jimmy down in FL and Bill said, "Please, kick me in the a** if I ever draft another stupid guy."

This is the reason I have always wanted Harbaugh.

Discipline is absolutely a huge issue.

Discipline to not get penalties but also...discipline to the attention to detail that the scheme calls for, particularly the offense. I feel like McCarthy and boy wonder failed to adhere to hammer the attention to detail around running routes or blocking assignments. It has been sloppy.

I am still holding out hope that boy wonder leaves and Big Mac is fired. I hope we can name DQ head coach as he did is a very underrated coach who knows the value of discipline.

Dak was average...but there are only 3 or 4 QBs that could have overcome 14 penalties. We already know Dak is NOT 1 of those 3 or 4. So since we know Dak is not going to wake up and be Mahomes, Brady or Rogers...we HAVE to clean up the other stuff that is in our control

I hope not. Because MM needed to make changes to the staff and take charge but didn’t. Moore needs to work on his playbook. And quit closing his eyes and picking plays. Maybe some of the pages are stuck together and that’s why we called the same 10 plays.. Lol.
...maybe there are limiting factors in expanding use of the Back 50 pages of the playbook

And that's the problem, Until Jerry is not the GM anymore and we have a GM that will hire the kind of HC you described we are destined for futility.

Moore is who he is
He needs to learn under a real mentor but he won’t
He needs to be let go
I like Moore a lot. But I am on the fence about him. We get games where he is creative using motion and other games he is vanilla. If he stays he needs to revamp his play book and spend endless hours watching film of running teams and learn from them.

We had issues when Bill was here. But not this bad. This team need a strong head coach and we need to draft solid smart players.

You can’t twist the 26 years into anything other than pathetic.

Certainly not pathetic for our ownership and franchise which has flourished thru this down era thanks to us.

Honestly I’m impressed this ego manic has produced 11 playoff appearances.m this era. The rest of the league should be ashamed if they haven’t achieved as much running their organization how it should be done .

That’s the catch 22. He does just enough to sell hope and build the hype up. And being the faithful fans we are we drink it up so desperate .

Teams from more dormant franchises don’t buy into that crap. They’ve lowered their expectations and expect to lose . But they know their franchises are doing everything they can. They just can’t do it. And enjoy whatever wins come along.

Being a longtime fan of a mostly dormant college team I can tell you it’s a much better place to be than this. But it takes a different mentality. An apathetic attitude. The kind of attitude many Cowboy fans abandoned from their local or regional teams for the success of the Cowboys.

And that’s my greatest hope if this crap continues for another 25 years is we will lose the AT label and all the fans who have hopped on because of our popularity and success from prior eras and we become like most other NFL teams with their loyal local following. That might be worth the despair we’ve gone thru.
