Why all the nostalgia for Romo?

I haven't noticed a whole lot of Romo nostalgia. At least not on this board.

Romo was an amazing QB. But the nostalgia comes from blaming Dak for the playoff loss. Which is step one of the despair process. Step two is escalating the blame to the HC. But it’s easier to think about trading Dak than it is to think about starting the program over from scratch with a new staff.

To answer the question - the nostalgia was because Romo was not, in fact, a bad QB the way he was ridiculed in his time. He was quite good - and many Dallas fans didn't realize it until he left.

For their belief that 2016 was the perfect time and opportunity for Romo to finally get over the hump and win a Super Bowl.

LOL this made me laugh but bluntly honest with some truth.
I don’t think you can put this label on Dak just yet as his career is not over. But he’s certainly heading down that path.

Without a doubt this description fits Romo.

He wasn't the answer, it was time for change and I was 100% on board with Dak taking the reins in 2016.

I have no nostalgia for Romo
He was more talented than Dak but the results were no different
He was a good not great QB because IMO greatness is defined by post season success

Just as some are acting like the 2007 and 2014 teams weren't viewed as very talented rosters during the course of the actual 2007 and 2014 seasons at those times. In fact there was a thread on here not long ago questioning whether or not the 2007 team was the best roster the Cowboys had since the 90s Cowboys teams.

They are the constant narratives pushed that Romo never had solid run game, when both the 2007 and 2014 seasons happened to have running backs who had a break out season. And now some of the same ones who bashed Romo, are acting like they always supported and believed in him and his ability to lead this franchise to a 6th Super Bowl win.

Anybody that says the 2007 roster was better than these rosters knows nothing about football. They had the worst pass defending LBs in the league in Bradie James and Akin Ayodele.

As far as offensively, Dallas fielded the worst third down "to go" yardage in the NFL in 2007, while Romo was performing at an unprecedented historical rate as a passer. Teams basically figured out Garrett's offense by doubling TO and nobody was open after that, while Dak has a top 5 offense in terms of WRs being open.

Julius Jones was the starting RB and he only had 1 single 1000 yard season of his career. Garrett couldn't field a RG to save his life. Dak stepped into an OL with 2 definitive all-pro linemen, while one it could be made in case in TF. Ron Leary was dominant run blocker. Gurode played multiple years in Dallas and was unknown, Columbo was a journeyman OL that played with the Raiders, Leonard Davis was a bust for 5 years with the Cardinals, Marco Rivera had a shot back and so.

That 2007 roster was essentially the same roster as 2006, except with Garrett as OC. It was the same roster that Parcells almost had a heart attack from and NY Giants players flew down during the Carolina game to support their HC, who looked completely dejected, standing on the sidelines of the Cowboys utile Romo completely rejuvenated the franchise.

Dak Prescott in that offense would look worse than Skyler Green as a WR did \. Dak fielded an offense that was 'number 1' this year, but also amongst the worst in converting third downs, because he sucks as a passer. Romo on the other hand was asked to consistently bail out a failing offense on third and longs. They are not even in the same league.

There is a reason Wade Phillips tried to get Dan Reeves here to baby-sit Jason Garrett and his TO prone offense. Wade's issue wasn't with Romo, it was with the glorified OC that accomplished nothing in his life to earn the label 'genius'.

Maybe some can start creating dream scenarios of Aikman leading the 2007 and 2014 Cowboys to the Super Bowl.

Julius Jones had a 'breakout season' at a whopping 3.9 or 3.7 YPC as the starting RB? You are making up stories.

I was referring to Marion Barber who had rushed for 975 yards, 10 rushing TDs, and averaged 4.8 yards per carry and many Cowboys fans wanted him to be the starter over Julius Jones. He also had caught 44 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns. And he made the pro bowl in that season.

Julius Jones was the starter. Barber averaged 4.8 YPC in YPC in 2006 as well as the second back, hardly his 'breakout' season. In fact, Barber had 14 TDs in 2006.

In 2008 as the STARTER, he rushed for a whopping 3.7 yards per carry, meaning when teams were defending the run and not the pass, he was essentially a mediocre back. He did it, because teams were playing deep cover 2 and all Garrett had in his arsenal was the QB draw. Barber was a change of pace back never a first round back.

Acting like Julius Jones and Marion Barber were Zeke and Pollard with the OL of 2016 onwards is delusional. That was an OL and RG built by arguably the best OL coach in the history of the league.

Romo choked all his career. Dak is headed the same way, IMO.

i can guarantee if they insert Romo in 2016 for playoffs, we get the same result. = NO superbowl

I don't think we would have started slow against the Packers in 2016. We may not have won, but that team lacked veteran leadership.
