I haven't read all the replies but for what it's worth I too can confirm this conversation is happening, will it happen? Probably not but I can confirm it it's been discussed, FWIW........
So what's the compensation being discussed ? 1st round pick ? 2 1st round picks ? or wait until Payton is fired or his contract runs out? Tampa had to give 2 1st rounders for Gruden I believe.

You couldn't count the people that said Parcells would never coach here
No ****! And that’s probably the epitome of a head coach that would “bump heads with Jerry“ and he took the job the minute it was offered.

We are Thee ******* Dallas Cowboys! The pinnacle destination of any player and coaches career. Regardless of what any fans think.

You hear it every off-season whether players request a trade, or they run into our locker room after a game, the Dallas Cowboys is always a list topper. I don’t recall players asking for other teams like Earl Thomas and Jamal Adams publicly did with the Dallas Cowboy. Most recently, Patrick Peterson did the same.

Question I have is.....If you had to trade for Payton. Do you think the Saints would take Prescott for Payton...straight up?

The Saints do need a QB.....Just saying.

Honestly.....If the Saints were willing to make that deal......I'd do it in a heartbeat.

And draft the kid out of Nevada.....and start over.

And your getting rid of the McCarthy stench.....Done deal!!!!!

What about Cooper for Payton

People assume coaches don’t want to come here cause of JJ. I never got that narrative either. It’s one of 32 of the most lucrative jobs in the world.

To restore this franchise back to greatness would be a hell of an accomplishment for someone.

This is just another dumb rumor from a guy who loves to spread rumors, and that goes for Lombardi too. Here is the crux of it. If Jerry could hire Sean Payton he would. Wow, what a revelation. So would I. The problem is Payton is under contract with the Saints so Jerry cannot talk to him about coming to the Cowboys. And he would have to cough up draft capital to get Payton and my guess is it would be a lot. I don't think giving away high draft picks for a HC is a good approach. Since the Cowboys do not sign top tier free agency, high draft picks are more valuable to them than most teams.

But the dumb thing is, this would be throwing good money after bad. Payton is not going to fix the problem with Dak. Dak is who he is, which would be fine except Jerry paid him $40 million a year when he is worth about $10 million less. Dak's problems are in his head and while Payton may be able to make some minor improvements in Dak's psyche, I doubt he can turn him into Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady.

The best thing Dallas can do to help Dak is hire an OC who knows how to design a running game. Put those high draft picks into offensive line and TE, and some WRs who can catch and block. Balance the offense so Dak does not have to carry the team on his shoulders. Yes, I know, he is getting paid $40 million but there is nothing that can be done about that for the next 3 years so accept it and work with it as best as they can.

Along with that, make plans to move on from Zeke. His 2022 salary is already guaranteed so he will be a Cowboy in 2022, but that does not mean he has to play every down. Draft a RB in the middle rounds. Look for someone who can run and block, and also catch a few passes out of the backfield.

Give Dak a lesser role and the offense will be better.

Then, stop overpaying your free agent players.

While I understand what your saying. I look at what Peyton did last year with jameis Winston. 14 tds and 3 into before he got hurt. This is from a guy that almost had td/int rate of 1.5/1 his whole career.

Again I just look at it this way. You lost in the playoffs cause of bad coaching and bad qb play.

If you get a real head coach who can fix things in here…. And he even solves one of those issues? Well then your probably still playing this weekend.

NFL coaching matters. And we saw it on all levels the other day how it can lose you a game

Jerry is not a problem anymore. Don’t get me wrong, He used to be!

But he is responsible in an indirect way. The media machine, the pampering, the Hollywood atmosphere, the luxury stadium, it was all created by Jerry.

I agree with people like Aikman who say it’s easy nowadays for a Dallas Cowboy to be overrated or complacent, or get a big head and go soft.

https://www.si.com/nfl/cowboys/news...re-saints-coach-sean-payton-jerry-jones-rumor

This makes sense. If anyone can turn Dak into a better Qb, its Sean Payton, and this team is going nowhere until Dak gets better. Payton loves Dallas. He loves the Jones family. The cost of luring him to Dallas was too high in 2019, but Payton has only 1 year left on his contract.

I can see a likely scenario where MM comes up short next year and Jones quickly moves on to Payton. I'd rather it happen this year, but we would probably have to send NO some compensation. I just don't see Jerry passing on Payton if there is an opportunity to get him.
Get rid of dak. Wholesale

I'll believe it when I see it...on both sides, Jones and Payton. Jones has paid under 10 mill a year for HC: Strike one...Jones does not give control to coaches unless he needs a new stadium:Strike 2....they are friends and this would ruin it: strike 3....sorry Jones would need to pay him over 10 mill and give him control of everything...again what has he done that makes you think he is going to

1. trade Dak....for a coach
2. pay the coach 12-15 mill
3. give him total control

Believe it when I see it.

IMO this season proved Payton’s chops more than any others…he had one of the worst QBs in the league and some of the worst luck as far as injuries and covid goes and they were a Rams not collapsing in the fourth quarter away from being in the playoffs. Firmly believe we’d still be playing right now if Payton was our HC…pretty sure he would’ve reduced Moore’s role and increased Pollard’s.

Well, there is that
But don’t let reality get in the way of a good rumor

Or facts like Jerry doesnt hire control HC for big money...but hey lets do this again for the sake of some i guess. The Saints GM is always on the radio annoucing the starting lineup and telling the media what players are in and out every week..I'm sure Payton would be ok with it here also.

That’s not actually possible
The saints don’t have the cap room to sign him
And why would Payton want to come here if we didn’t have a QB?
He has that situation now and his backup plan is better than Rush
