If I am GM, I fire McCarthy

About this addressing the penalties after the season is over.

My first job as a GM in my first radio station, my boss flies in to take me to dinner. He knows I am struggling a little and he recites to me the management mantra "it's hard to remember the goal was to drain the swamp when you are up to your butt in alligators".

He looked me square in the eyes and said my name and "you are not here to solve problems as much as to anticipate them and prevent them from becoming bigger problems".

That draining the swamp was a reference to my reluctance to remove some employees not on board as he knew I was hoping they'd come around. I will never forget what he said next and it applies directly to this Cowboys situation. "You are waiting for them to come around and they're waiting for you to come around, which is most likely to happen"?

If I am McCarthy and I can get away with it, I do not wait for a re-signing of Gregory, I fire him and I show that tape of him laughing after getting that second offsides and just say "you figure out why he's not a Cowboys any longer".

How in the hell does any player get off laughing after hurting his team? How do they let him off? Where is the team enforcement? Are these players so happy they just don't give a damn?
I think Gregory was laughing in disgust because the official missed the tackle moving his foot.

Hire a Head Coach that wants to WIN....not just collect a paycheck.

Start there.

I feel a little bad for McCarthy because he was supposed to fix the Jerry culture problem. Vince Lombardi couldn't do that.

He sold out his NFL legacy for this paycheck but that's on him.

No one is handing him a microphone after the losing stench that's going to be on him when he leaves here.

I don't know where you get the idea that McCarthy didn't want to win.

... a bit hazy in terms of bigger picture. Though, it really appears to be the little things, this team does to destroy itself.

MM seems to appear the lazy type, not deeply interact and reiterate about the small things.

To me, your 12-5 and out 1st round. Not good idea going forward.

Everyone WANTS to win.

For McCarthy it was about the paycheck first.

He desperately wanted a job.

How about a guy like Harbaugh who has plenty of money already but wants the ring more so than the pay day?

It still came down to inches on Wilson trying to haul the ball in on the 11 yardline. If he pulls that in, I think they would have scored with 4 plays available to them from the 11.

John? I'd hire him today.

Jim? I'll have to find another team to support. No way am I ever rooting for him.
John and the Ravens have the same problem we do. They think their QB is taking them somewhere .John gives Lamar raving reviews. He would do the same here to appease Jerry!

I do not dislike him but I think heads should roll on a team that led the league in penalties and saved their worst day for the playoffs.

Sometimes, a firing is for effect and one is needed here.
Sometimes it not the coaches fault.....we've had these issues for years, we also have some players that are outmanned and commit penalties because they can't keep up....firing the HC without knowing the whole story is lazy and stupid.

You have no idea about McCarthy. You don't know him and have never been inside the Cowboy headquarters.

First of all, you don't KNOW that....you're guessing.

And that's what this site IS.....a fan site where we speculate and share OPINIONS.

It's not 'post only what you know for sure by being inside the team facility' type of situation.

If you don't like what I have to say, there are several options for you to explore.

I suggest against this particular one.

I can agree there.

Thing is, as I've said before....MM may not be a problem himself, but is he part of the solution?

It's fairly clear the OC is in over his head. Why watch Quinn walk out the door just to keep McCarthy?

What's his role really? Unless MANY are dead wrong on Moore we would have needed to replace each coordinator he hired in each of the first two years.
