Should they consider drafting a kicker?

Not sure if he is in the draft, I don’t think he is.
But the K from Ohio State is pretty good.

Never missed a FG, and think missed one PAT in windy weather.

I know it's unusual to draft a kicker, but it seems like drafting one would enable us to get a really good one. It's painfully obvious Zuerlein is done. The Raiders did great drafting Sebastian Janokowski.

I don't even think a high-round pick would be necessary. I believe it's possible to get a good kicker in the 4th, 5th, 6th, or even 7th round. If the scouting team does a good job, maybe we can draft the next Dan Bailey or the next Sebastain Janakowski, and that's without using an early round pick.

We had the best kicker in the league back when we had Dan Bailey, and also way back in '81 when we had Rafael Septien. It's so much nicer when the game is on the line to have confidence that your kicker will come through for you if you need a game-winning field goal. Zuerlein nearly gave me a nervous breakdown.

I miss having a high quality kicker.
Yes yes and yes!!

I would say no. They have one under contract and can bring another one in for competition. Zuerlein might have a bounce back year next year.

Drafting a kicker is hit or miss. For every McPherson, there are a few others who never pan out so you might just be better off going with street free agents. Daniel Carlson was drafted by the Vikings and was bad his rookie year so they released him. The Raiders picked him up and he's been great. Matt Gay was drafted by Tampa and missed some big kicks. Now he's with the Rams and is a Pro Bowler

What's it going to be then, eh?

No,

Commit to scouting the position. Bring in camp legs, not players who punt and placekick but ultimately serve no value other than to replace reps.

How many late 1st round picks or any picks stay with their teams as long as Janokowski? That said how many kickers turn out to have that career. I would see a late round pick for a great college kicker. If they stick the job they are cheap to keep around.

Yes, 100%

And a TRUE return specialist.

Enough of taking guys that don't see the field in 3 years then get cut

YES yes and YES. You draft players who you cut every year, at least in this way we can get someone who can actually contribute, so heck yes, 3rd/4th round or later.

There's Janikowski then there are guys, the Bucs and Browns spent picks on kickers in recent years, who don't cut it. The Rams drafted a kicked last year - he's not their kicker. They've got a guy who used to kick for Tampa (not the guy the Bucs drafted, either).

I don't think it's necessary to draft a kicker. Every college team, at every level, has one. That's over 250 teams. But you certainly need to bring some in and have them compete for the job. Thinking Greg Z is good enough is a bad plan - make him (or someone else) earn it.

The bengals drafted theirs and he kicked them to the AFC championship game. I'd be all for it if he's there in later rounds (whomever said kicker might be)

The odds on the Bengals winning it all are slim.

It’s always 50% their team, 50% who their opponents are. They just beat the number 1 seed because there are no powerhouses in the AFC this year. Beating the winner of Chiefs/Bulls is not unrealistic at all.

And then once they’re in the big game, anything can happen. They played the packers this year already and only lost to a field goal

Please do, in the late rounds
