I understand your point, but Troy does play by play analysis, which requires a deep knowledge of the game. It doesn't necessarily translate to coaching, but he doesn't need anyone telling him what just happened on the field and why, or what a team needs to do.Aikman has a whole team of people behind the scenes telling him what he needs to know so he sounds as good as he does. Not that he doesn’t know football but what you hear on TV is not a one for one with what would happen as a coach.
One of the things he hated about having Switzer as a coach was that he, himself had to be the disciplinarian and keep the team in line. That doesn't sound like someone who would want to be a coach.
