If Payton still wants to coach, he would love to coach the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry would pay him top HC money

Let's see what happens, he might want a year off

Reading that Peyton has been noncommittal withe the Saints on their head coaching position for next year.

What would you give up ?

I would do a second round pick.

We need someone who can extract the talent from this offense and Dak.

He has a solid background, and one of the few Coaches Jerry would be comfortable with.

What to you guys/gals think ?
You would actually legitimize the coaching position. I would rather have a McVay or Shanahan, just because Payton lost a few times in the playoffs where I expected them to make the SB.
Minnesota game, Rams game, second Minnesota game, Losing to the Bucs... ( that was Brees)

I am open to what I'm missing that makes Payton do better in this structure than MM, I surely dont see it with what they have done in the past though. This comparison is not over a small period its a large one and they had very similar "Weapons" for that period. Again I'm open to what I'm missing when presented with the data. This is'nt me saying MM should stay, I'm just asking why one is viewed clearly above the other based of what they have done. I think both fail in this Franchises current structure.

Yeah, like I said, it's more a hunch or gut instinct or maybe internal bias even.
Could boil down to I jus don't care for McCarthy in general honestly.

So if the empirical data back up your argument I have no problem conceding their coaching records are close to equal for a large sample size.

And like I said, probably just an impulse opinion of me attaching Favre/Rodgers to McCarthy without doing the same with the Brees and Payton attachment as well.

Finally, I think it just may be that I find it hard to envision the Jerry Yes Man version of Payton to be nearly as soft as the current Jerry Yes Man version of McCarthy.

Yeah, that's probably it.

To me, this is all pointing towards… Payton taking a year off from coaching and us firing McCarthy are next year barring a Super Bowl and getting Payton that way.

My only problem is what does this change...your comment must start with "We can win with _____(insert coach here) if Jerry changes....." now i will not say never but I have 26 years of proof he does not like the way he won his SB and dont see him stopping trying to disprove it was a good way to win them. He has literally spent these 26 years trying to disprove his own success....

I agree with your last statement right up till Payton actually comes here, then I have a hard time believing he didnt take the contract knowing he is second fiddle to the owner. But who knows maybe Jerry can change.....

th
If it's a first just do it.

Quinn is probably gone and KM might find a space to occupy. Bring this man home. MM is a perfect Jerry puppet. 14 penalties in the final game is on him. I know the players play the game but, the teacher failed! Getting tired of some of his "Bush League" speeches as well.
Criticism of tactics and leadership is one thing, but people have to quit expecting things from post game press conferences and interviews. Coaches don't plan those things or attend them to make great speeches or provide great insight into the team or strategy. They are an obligatory part of the job most coaches would rather not bother with. Most coaches just tolerate it because they have to.

As for Payton, I would love to have him, but let's be realistic. Payton is way beyond the point in his career where he would be willing to coach for an owner like Jerry. He doesn't need the money or the attention, and there really isn't much incentive for him to work for an owner that won't give him the control he would want

And that's only if he really even wants to coach anymore. Even if that is the plan a year in the booth might change his mind

I truly can not disagree brother and believe it would only be a short lived marriage a la Parcells but those 2 crazy oxymoron words associated with Dallas Cowboys of "discipline and accountability" would at least maybe return for a brief glimpse.

Only to be ultimately driven away as you describe leaving not enough time to see the full bearing of fruit if the true culture change were actually allowed to continue.

Nice chat bro.

and if i'm Naawlins ..i'd make sure i ask for the world for Payton easily our best HC ever in Saints land, i'd demand the Gruden package
Two future 1st rounds.., two future 2nd rounds ...

if you really want him that badly ...then let's see how much you willing to pay compensation for him...

What trips me out, is McCarthy himself also has a SB winning resume and credentials to his name as well, and he also is supposed to be a well regarded offensive mind
too. But now after just 2 years, there's the swirling rumor of could the Cowboys be interested in Payton ..and ditch McCarthy ?
Their resumes are very similar, rather give MM more power then throw away premium picks for a HC who is considering retiring.

Well, now that it's official he's stepping away, you good with a trial run of Payton over BigMac?

I am.

To me thats no lose situation, if we have to wait a year either MM gets it done or not and if not we bring in Payton without giving up draft capitol....absolutley.

The team is gonna suck in 2022 so that will lead to a nice draft pick for New Orleans

Just wondering what Payton has done without Brees. Draft picks for coaches just seems insane to me especially when Jerry is in charge of football operations anyway.

Coach A
152-89 regular season
9-8 playoffs
1 super Bowl

Coach B
142-93-1 regular season
10-8 playoffs
1 Super Bowl

He's a buddy of Jerry....if he's smart he'll steer clear from the job..if he takes it? Its a cash grab. No reputable coach should want to coach this franchise and their structure. I expect a guy like Payton to want the keys to the car. Until Jerry does that expect the same results even with Payton.
Payton's eyes are wide open. He knows what Jerry is about and how the team structure works. If Payton things he can work within that structure and he still wants to coach, then maybe Sean and Jerry can figure it out.

But I think Sean goes to TV at least for this year.

Jerry and Stephen are still here so Peyton wouldn't matter.

Vince Lombardi couldn't un...mess this ... Feces show. Not while the Jones clan is in residence.
Agreed.

I also question whether it would make any difference. The rot runs higher than the HC position
