This is the reason why I asked whether or not Sean Payton would want to come back and work for Jerry. Jerry would have to put something down in writing that he wouldn't meddle too much in what Payton wants to do.
Once again, here y’all go with this notion created by y’all and the media that has never hindered any hiring, ever. Never been stated by any former coach, player or personnel. Not once in the history of his ownership!

Nah. He’ll probably join the booth somewhere and talk football. He’s never coming back here. Sorry guys, I know some are hopeful. It’s not happening.

He needs to make a move now.

knowing this team they’ll go 10-7 and win a playoff game then get smoked by a real team then Jerry will give McCarthy a 10 year extension

There is no coincidence that Jerry hasn't endorsed MM for next season yet.

Gets on the radio last week and pretty much states that if there was somebody out there that could do a better job, he would get them. A few days later Sean Payton “retires“ and then it’s him “taking a break” & not really retiring.

The elite closer Jerry Jones has done it again!! The writing is on the wall! He’s probably waiting for next week to capture headlines for two weeks prior to the Super Bowl!

Jerry thinks Dak issue is MM and KM so he will bring Sean at any cost this coming year
it might work but I think he will be disappointed ..... .Sean is not the same years ago

Again, he has three years left on his contract and the Saints own his rights if he returns.

It’s like the ‘lateral move’ factor in the NFL. A coach can’t go to another team for a lateral move, unless the previous team releases him.

True but notice he didn't even close the door on coaching again this year. That tells me, he doesn't see his contract as an issue.

One totally lost it while having Rodgers in his prime. The other lost his franchise QB, his replacement, and a bunch of other players while staring at being over the cap by $74 million. Payton will be in contention every year with a franchise QB and serviceable defense. Not sure McCarthy could do the same. The question is does Dak qualify?

McCarthy didn't have Rodgers in one of his final two seasons with Green Bay. Sean Payton went 7-9, 7-9, and 7-9 all back to back to back with Brees in his prime.

The Payton mythos here is getting pretty crazy.

so kill the posts than like 16 now all on SP who is under contact two more years and is retiring as of now..ughh MM also under contract..all this is MOOT.

how much would NO ask for id say too much you pay SP buy out with money and picks and then buyout MM

only for what is very slim margin of an upgrade i mean their careers are pretty similar.that far too steep price IMHO

"I don't think" ... ummmm... how is that not leaving the door open? I mean, I'm not trying to further stir up what is obviously already-spirited conversation... but isn't that a lot like what you'd expect from a Lincoln Riley or a Jimbo Fisher or a Brian Kelly?

Exactly.......he could have easily shut down any possibility for this year but he didn't.

Here's why I think MM is a goner sooner rather than next year. If Sean payton "lingers" over this team, every time MM and the team lose a game , he will get peppered with Sean questions, as will Jerry and Stevie..ALL YEAR. That is a recipe for disaster and a huge distraction this team doesn't need. Its better to pay the asking price NOW, to cut bait with MM and either name DQ HC or lure Sean here. Can't kick the can down the road a year. It will doom the team with a lame duck HC and media frenzy. Jerry is on jerry time btw...meaning his "window" is ready 2 close. The dirt nap in the sky is callin him soon. This move has 2 be made guys, and fast. Just my 2 cents.

Here's something that crossed my mind guys. Lets say we land Sean this year. Does his being here lure Drew Brees from retirement to play like 2 more years? I say that because ..Drew can either be a QB coach or a starter..If Sean looks at this team, he may think its very very close. He may pick up the phone and call Drew. Is Drew Happy in the studio? Does he miss playing? These are all legit questions. Drew as a Dallas Cowboy...hmmm...

He called Brees already. Brees said no.

That was the Saints. Would he at least consider Dallas if Sean was here? I mean its unlikely, but I just am thinking outside the box.
