It could be argued, but probably not successfully. They’ve certainly had talented rosters from time to time, but the most talented in the league is quite a leap. The fans and media proclaim it so it must be true, right? Not so.
Key words in my post... "periods"...

This year, if you go position-by-position, they're easily one of the top three teams (just not at the position that matters). Jerry has done a fine job of building a team on paper, that's never been the issue, he just sucks at everything else.

He's built good rosters over the years. He's givin us travis frederick, tyron smith, zach martin, dlaw, micah parsons, tdiggs, sean lee, dak, zeke, all people that we have drafted just to name a few. Yes some dumb mistakes like not picking tj watt but for the most part he has did his part in building us a contending team. Now we just need a head coach that can take us over the top

Stop making excuses for his ego. No GM lasts 25 years with this level of failure:

to me that makes a stronger case not weaker case. It showed me Jerry is not running around making picks on his own, that he will sit and listen to what others in the room are saying. I have heard that Jerry wants yes men and yet that is not the case.

When it comes to the draft, I think McClay is running the show and I highly doubt Jerry can name one player outside the top fifteen picks in the draft but two problems I have with Jerry is that the last guy that gets into his ear can have an effect on a player being selected, too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to the draft, the other issue is that when it comes to giving out contracts, Jerry is too close to the players and gives ridiculous contracts to players he seems to have an affliction for, like giving Jay Ratliff, Jaylon Smith , Dez and Zeke etc etc, now I know Steven negotiates the contracts but Jerry has the final say in giving these ridiculous deals.....can't run a successful team paying your players on the team you have an affliction for...

Agree whole heartedly. Get ready for the Nancy's.
How about you stop licking his boots and smelling his jock. Jerry has mishandled this team for 26 years and counting. At some point the Owner should retire to his ranch and hire a real football man GM.
Nice post on a family forum. You don't know the age of the poster. No need to be ignorant & classless!

Then Jerry does a lousy job as GM, especially handcuffing the HC to be in all decisions involving players and staff selection. And rid the players of the open door policy to the Owner (JJ) without the HC.

You do realize the first job of the GM is hiring the HC? And the first job of the owner is to hire the GM. So, I am still saying he hasn’t done his job as GM and adding owner.

You do know a HC is part of building a team. Jerry sucks as a GM flat out sucks. What exactly has the DC contended for the last 27 years, participation trophies.

It would be nice if Jerry was a behind the scenes hands off owner who only makes the executive decisions but people need to remember Jerry played football in college. He has a passion for the game so he wants to be part of it. It doesn't help that him winning those Superbowls has inflated his ego but that's Jerry.

We are stuck with him. The apathy has set in for me with this fact and realization.

I think you're getting Jerry and Will McClay mixed up
I do give Jerry credit for hiring and keeping Will

The bigger problem I dont understand is that if your the HC and an Offensive guy and the young OC is struggling against a defense he doesnt have an answer for, Why are you not stepping in to help him? Football is like chess there is an answer for every move. You just need to be smart enough to see it than talented enough to overcome it. That did not happen this year
Agree, that was very disappointing

Outside observers should make one consideration. A general manager may assemble or oversee good drafts, hiring good coaches and/or acquiring good free agents. However, the same general manager may not be assembling or overseeing the best combination of draftees, coaches and free agents.

If that is true, the optimal alternative is a fresh set of eyes not influenced by past organizational philosophy. And the only way that happens is for the old general manager be replaced by a new one. Then the new general manager would have the opportunity of assembling good draftees, coaches and free agents that might function together better than those that preceded them.

He kept Will McClay, who has brought those players. He’s hired Gailey, Garrett, Phillips and now McCarthy….

Stop saying Jerry has done his job as GM. We're still reeling form horrible picks such as Jaylon Smith and LVE and even worse, being so dumb he has no clue as to what role DT's and S's play on a D. He's a horrific GM who isn't interested in winning.

I get that and couldn't agree more... Going back to what has been said many many many times (Jerry has said it on his interview with The Fan radio station so there is no link for proof), The day MM was hired, Jerry specifically told MM that KM will be calling and scheming and not to butt in... This doesn't fall on MM. This falls on Jerry and his meddling... MM would love nothing more than telling KM that he (MM) will be calling plays.

Jerry is handicapping this team more and more. We all should know this by now... Everything has to be done Jerry's way or it doesn't get done...

I understand what your saying but can you name one organization in any sport that would keep the same GM employed for 27 years and only have 4 playoff wins?
