What's interesting to me is the multi-year extension although he signed a 3 years deal before the season started. Read a tweet asking who's now the biggest star on the team.......Parsons. Maybe this isn't about Payton, but Quinn and Jerry's newest superstar.

Dan Quinn is 43-42 in six seasons as an NFL head coach. He's done a nice job improving the defense, but this seems like more Jerry coaching shenanigans.

Get off to a bad start and ol' Jerry will replace you with a guy already on his staff. Worked really well the first time he tried it.

he did get to a SB, which he should have won, and I think he is better than mike.
The only thing is it is hard to be HC and DC.

my complaint, is that if you like dan, why not make the move now? why wait and waste another season with mike??

One never knows the ever-changing machinations of the ancient mummy: Jerry Jones.
At this point who knows what he's thinking anymore.
He's got salesman so ingrained he's like a an aging star performer who's lost a lot to dementia, but put him in front of a crowd... He knows just what to do like it's breathing.
Not saying, or hoping the mummy in question is actually experiencing dementia.
Just seems like it.

I think if we whiff and miss getting Sean, then DQ is a nice fall back hire HC. My gut tells me Hes better suited as a DC than a HC. Dont care what anyone says, When Jerry stated what he did on the radio a few days ago, it made MM a lame duck HC...Jerry can try to put the tooth paste back in the tube all he wants, but the damage has been done. MM is dead man walking. I'm critical of him,but he didnt deserve this.

Sean Payton come back year in 2023.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have Payton at HC/running the offense and Quinn as DC? Probably a pipe dream but hey stranger things have happened.

Oh he deserves every bit of this. We were a penalty machine all season. That's his job. He's not or a defensive coordinator or a defensive coordinator. He has no excuse for having us unprepared against San francisco. 14 penalties? He should have been fired.

I know DQ gets the rap for that SB debacle.....but remember Shanahan was the OC at the time and that offense went into a shell and imploded. Any kind of average offense would have kept the lead, but hey,....all fell onto DQ.

True, but the HC always gets the blame and the credit for wins.
Arrians just won a SB last year, and he is a clown lol. But he got credit for the win.

Shanahan hasnt been a great coach, made a lot of mistakes, but he seems to be learning from them and has done a good job this season.
Now can he finish?
Dan was the boss of Atlanta, so he should have stopped that meltdown in SB, been more aggressive at the end, and maybe he has a ring today.

But the key is what did he learn from that game, and that HC gig? Can he be better , smarter now?

That would be good, but we dont know what quinns aspirations are. He might want to be HC of Cowboys, and wont stay as DC if they give it to payton.
23 is too far away, I am more concerned with 22.
jerry having mike back for another run is just plain stupid.
If they for sure want peyton, why not tank in 22 and have the top draft picks in 23.
there is no way dallas will go to SB in 22 under mike. so it will just be a wasted year and more low round draft picks.

they need to plan this stuff, not just ad lib at a moments notice. That is a jones flaw, he doesnt plan anything, just reacts however he feels thinks at the time.

You're literally crapping on Jerry for something he hasn't done and you're just speculating about.

We've gone through so many coaches that I don't think it matters who we hire next.

Bingo.

You're literally crapping on Jerry for something he hasn't done and you're just speculating about.

Oh, boo hoo. Poor Jerry.

I'll stop "crapping on Jerry" the day he manages to win something in spite of himself. Three playoff wins in the last 25 years doesn't entitle him to the benefit of the doubt.

I think Jerry has Payton as option number 1 and Quinn as option number 2. Jerry wants to see if Payton will accept the job and if not and we fail to win the superbowl, he'll hand it over to Quinn.

Could be. Jerry likes him. But I just hope Jerry decides to interview at least 8-10 people for the job next time. Don't just hire the 1st guy you like, talk to everyone and make the best decision.

Answer: optics and money

Firing MM (from JJ’s perspective) after a 12-5 season and winning a division title sends desperate dictator vibes. JJ wants to maintain the image of generous statesman.

Throw in the millions of dollars owed MM if we cut him after 2 years— and we arrive where we are:

MM gets another year with a bonfire warming his seat. Things go poorly, Quinn gets a shot to be the next HC. JJ gets to preserve the notion of justly firing MM after giving him another year to fix the issues.

I too hate wasting a year— but we’re all just living in JJ’s football fantasy lol

That's why he keeps hiring the wrong coaches. He has in mind already who he wants and never does a thorough search. Other teams do that
