You know, when people have a take like what's in this thread, I'm curious what you think Dallas can/should actually do it.

Joe Burrows was picked #1 and Dallas hasn't picked #1 since 1989

And Lamar Jackson is the only pro-bowl QB taken *after* the Cowboys first pick since we've had Dak and I get the feeling, he wouldn't be too popular here either with his 1-3 playoff record

I mean we *could* have signed Brady...but I think it's laughable to think he was going to come here. And while we may have had more post season success this year with him, he wouldn't have been the difference between us and a Super Bowl last year with our defense last year.

I guess we also could have traded a ton of draft picks to move up from #17 to #1 for Joe Burrow...except according to Ian Rappaport the Dolphins offered three #1 pick including #5 and it was rejected

QBs are hard to find, we're spoiled in that we lucked into Romo and Dak without spending any real resource (Quincy Carter is the highest QB we've taken since the 1989 supplemental draft and that was the 53rd or so pick)

And sure, we can blow the team up and suck every year, but how many times have the Bengals picked in the top 5 since 1990? 8...including *four* #1 picks. How about Cleveland? Nine times, with *four* #1 picks

How many times have we picked top fiver during that time? Twice...never high than 4th

And that's not to say I'll take our lack of success since 1996 over the Bengals. They're playing for a Super Bowl next week so that trumps our accomplishments

But losing in order to land a QB isn't the smart play like some think, and we honestly haven't had a shot at a QB better than Dak in free agency

Stop using logic and reason man.

It gets in the way of all these guys posts who want to dump Dak after every bad game. It’s easy to upgrade!

Mahomes

last 6 drives

PUNT
PUNT
INT= 8 points
runs around on 3rd down takes huge sack punt
sack fumble nearly lost 3 points
int nearly ,then an INT in ot

all Mahomes need more proof its team game?

why no choke talk what bad half of football for an elite qb

Going to multiple Superbowls gives you a pass.

Hell Jimmy g stats are terrible yet he's likely going to another Superbowl and he too will be given more leeway. If Daks wants the benefit of any doubt he needs to win a playoff game. True nobody does it by themselves but the excuses are over, he's had enough help on offense to get it done but hasn't.

Kick that can!

(He's presently scheduled for "zero'' salary in the final year of his contract, when he's 33. This move will change that.)

‘Change that’. As in add even more to the $13.2 million they will already be paying in 2025 to not even have him under contract.

The team just digs those holes deeper and deeper.

And some fans continue to not understand that this is planned from the moment that they sign these big contracts. Restructures/moving caps hits are part of the game. One player's restructures absorb other cap hits and open up space so you can sign other players. Then those players' restructures absorb the next cap hits and open up space to sign more players. The can you are kicking down the road is perpetual. The only way the total bill will ever come due is if the league changes how you can manage the cap.

“And some fans continue to not understand” that these restructurings get you locked into what turn out to be bad contracts.

I would suggest the wise thing. The difficult choice. Cut or trade big contracts like Lawrence and Cooper. Pay your dues for once instead of mortgaging the future to keep an underachieving team together. Stop kidding ourselves.
How do you cover the costs

They have a choice, but Jerry is old and he wants to win now and he's dumb enough to think Dak is good enough.

I hate watching this organization fail year after year and make bad decisions, but the only satisfaction I get is knowing Jerry will never see another championship because of ego and pride.

So, what’s YOUR solution to the CAP situation?

Quick, someone tell McVay that Goff is "good enough" to win a SB before he trades multiple 1sts to upgrade the QB position!!

Oh wait...

We love our guys.

One thing I'll stay is stafford is kind of a guy Dak should model himself after. Stafford was unclutch his whole career until he wasn't. I know he's a better qb..... but still from a mental standpoint. Maybe dak can learn to just trust himself more.

And Stafford was average today. I still think Goff would’ve performed the same as Stafford for the Rams in these playoffs. The Rams DL & OL we’re stout today. They won the game for LA.

Yes, the difference was his immense talent in that game.

Ignore the ball he fired into the chest of the 49ers player who dropped it however.

You gotta pay the piper at sometime. Some here are making it sound like you will be able to afford the best talent all the time just by shifting thing around like a shell game. If that was always true, then why have there been years the quality of talent went down and we couldn't afford the free agents and such we wanted in the past.

Technically this isn't the case. Dak's contract was reported as a 4 year, $140 million dollar deal, but in reality it was a six year deal with the last two voidable. But now they should be added once they do this restructure. Meaning Dak will be a Cowboy through 2026; which I'm sure will gladden the hearts of many fans on this forum.

I was hoping someone would correct me, because I remember hearing about two "ghost years" added to his contract. I assumed those would be added on at a later date but now I guess the Cowboys are just accumulating dead money. Not good.

  • 2025-2026 are void years for cap purposes, automatically void the last league day of 2024
