Cut Jarwin even if Schultz walks?

It sounds as if Schultz is more than likely signing elsewhere, leaving Blake Jarwin, Sean McKeon as the only Tight Ends on the roster in 2022. Jeremy Sprinkle will be a free agent as well.

Jarwin will count $5.8 million against the cap in 2022 and releasing him would free up about $4 million in cap space.

Should Dallas release him? He's literally done nothing (mainly because he can't stay healthy) since he signed that extension after a big finish in the 2019 season. But even when healthy in 2021, he didn't produce much.

Dallas will be extremely thin at TE even with Jarwin on the roster.

But I don't see how he can be relied upon.

I think cutting him, creating more cap space, drafting a TE in Round 4 or earlier and signing a Free Agent, would be the best roster moves.

Yes.

NOW is when you draft a 2nd round TE......not THREE times when you already have a HOF TE on your roster.

I am keeping him unless we get at least 3 to play around with. We will draft one try to develop one and maybe get a FA. Then pick us a few from the undrafted pile. We need one that Dak likes. He liked Jarwin and used Shultz when he could.

how is it that Schultz is more than likely will sign elsewhere? I also heard cowboys plan to franchise Schultz.

I say cut injury prone Jarwin, save money on the cap and put it towards Schultz.

Not a shot at the OP.

Why do we always post about letting our players walk in free agency, in this instance both the starter and the back up to only come back on here and complain about not signing a tight end of Schultz caliber in free agency because of it being a “glaring need“?

Then it carries on into the season where people complain about not signing TE in free agency and now it being a priority in the off-season.

Yeah he might not be the best blocking TE, but he is an all-around good tight end hence why he’ll get paid pretty well.

We have a running back who is an elite blocker and we’re all asking for him to get benched & waiting for next off-season so we can release him. Blocking isn’t the end all be all!

Keep Schultz and make a Mcgovern a fullback or draft a fullback.

Depends on what his agent is asking for. I would let him shop his services around. And see what he gets offered. Maybe he don’t get much attention. He had a pretty good season though..

He had a pretty good season and also was showing signs last year. He wasn’t a first round pick and we took him knowing that he would need time.

I just don’t like the fact of letting him hit free agency when he’s finally hitting his stride. Blocking is something that can be worked on and improved.

Letting one of our players hit free agency to only get his replacement from free agency is dumb to me. Usually that means you want somebody cheaper, cheaper usually means not as good, not as good usually doesn’t improve the team.

Let’s make moves that help the team and stop getting caught up with what these players are getting paid.

If Schultz walks that’s going to leave a big hole. Fans complain about his blocking which is an issue but he’s developed into a very good receiving TE. As for Blake Jarwin good riddance! He always has something that causes him to miss games when he’s on the field he disappears. Since he signed his contract extension 2 years ago he’s made only 12 catches for 108 yards.

Thing is Jarwin hasn't been around, so the team wouldn't miss him on the field. If the Cowboys can save $4M they should consider it.

I like what I see from McKeon and Sprinkle....Schultz is not worth the money....NOT a true TE.

If Jarwin is cut, it will be at the end of camp. There's no rush. We have his rights, and aren't on the hook for any guaranteed money.

Without him, who are we supposed to start? Jarwin is probably better than any bridge free agent we're likely to sign. He probably wasn't full healed to start the season. We have his rights for the next two seasons. McCarthy reportedly really liked his potential. It's very unlikely he's not with us next year.
