Why the Cowboys will likely keep Greg the Broken Leg

First off, to be clear, I believe Dallas should do everything it can to move on from Greg Zuerlein. I think he's in decline and it's not likely to reverse with him having a couple of back surgeries the past few years.

However, I think the Cowboys will justify keeping him, though, because:

1) We went 12-5, won the division and made the playoffs ... so the Cowboys could believe that his mistakes did not cost us anything, after all he did not miss a kick in the playoff game.

2) They consider him to still be clutch because he didn't miss a kick in that playoff game and I'm not sure he missed any "with the game on the line." (Of course, since we finished 12-5, those kicks he missed when the game was not on the line will be overlooked.

3) As was mentioned earlier, he was coming off offseason back surgery, so the Cowboys could believe that he'll return to form a year removed from it.

4) Bones Fassel is in his corner.

I wonder how his leg is hanging. A little to the left?

The Cowboys are bound to bring someone in to compete with him. The missed extra points are real concerning.
They should bring in camp competition
They had forbash last year and then waived him before camp
This after he went 10 for 10 on field goals.
Never understood that decision

We are probably 14-3 without him. His missed kicks cost us wins against TB and Oakland

Draft one late. Worked for Cincinnati.

Dallas have had so many guys in the 5th round and later that never make the team. They should have drafted a reliable kicker long ago but they never draft with a strategy in mind or value the position as they should.

Let's hope they bring in legitimate competition, not just a camp body. He has Fassel in his corner, but he will be on a very short leash. It's time to find our next Dan Bailey.

He probably cost us the #1 seed, he definitely lost at least one game for us, but there has to be someone better to replace him with. He’s still, statistically, better than more than half the kickers in the league (11th), so he was one made FG away from being a top 10 kicker. Someone will have to come into camp and take the job from him. Not likely.

This guy has to go. We dumped Bailey and Folk in a min when it appeared they were on the decline.

By points and his misses it would add up that he cost us. But the bucs with brady would have simply driven it into the endzone instead of FG range. We couldn’t stop him at that point.

Who cares? We're not going anywhere for the next 3 years anyways.

The next 3 years should be used as a try out session for guys. If you're good enough we'll keep ya around for the when the next QB and coach take over and we start to take things more seriously.

Nope. Not a Greg fan. I like my bathroom breaks during the game. He took that away this year.:(
