Indeed. Why the rush? Let's wait how our Draft Office performs this year and who's gonna leave. THEN we'll have something to talk about.

It’s never too early for optimism for some fans. There was one fan already predicting big things for the Cowboys in 2022 immediately after their loss to San Francisco in the playoffs. It usually takes until the draft for the wounds to heal for most fans from the previous season. I don’t think there’s going to be near as many optimistic fans heading into the 2022 season after the disappointment this season.

Love the optimism, but I think once free agency is over a lot of that optimism is going to melt away.

Cowboy optimism is the sincerest form of delirium. Then those Homers fall into the "depths of despair".

It will melt away because some will be hoping for a big splash FA signing that won’t happen. Stephen has already stated that the Cowboys will continue looking for low to mid tier free agents. They’re going to wait around like they usually do until the big high priced free agents are gone and prices start coming down.

I have been optimistic for 26 years that homers like you will one day be able to understand football but it hasn’t worked yet

I’m so worried, and haunted that I don’t “measure up” to your standards for understanding football. You use the word “Homer” like it’s a bad thing. Guess what, dumb-dumb? It’s not. If my choices are limited to A)”homer”, which to me is a normal football fan who enjoys the simple pleasures of watching football. A person who likes to talk about it, compare notes, treat it like the game/hobby that it really is, and experience things like optimism and hope? Or is it B)a “realist” know it all that’s perpetually miserable, takes everything too seriously, and is delusional enough to think they are an enlightened, higher life form? I choose A. I don’t have all the answers, and neither do you. We aren’t investing millions, aren’t immersed in it for a living, and have no control over it whatsoever. You probably know more about X’s and O’s and/or personnel than I do, but what normal person places such value on meaningless knowledge? What extra life reward does this “skill” actually get you? It’s a game! It’s meant to be fun! We’re all just speculators. Take a pill.

always build the OL.
I think we need lots of things
We are losing some guys who made larger contributions than I think some recognize
Gregory sack numbers weren’t huge but his impact was much greater than numbers show
Parsons I think slides in his spot
Like Cox a lot but we need LB
The oline has needs, safety and if you look another year out there is more including RB. Having a guy ready to step in even a year out is really ideal
Left guard is certainly immediate need and I don’t think MCGovern is the answer. What can Farniok do is gonna be important. Is Ball a player?
You always have needs but this years needs really need to be fixed with draft. We aren’t gonna be big players in FA
We need a couple more guys from last years draft to be solid and we need 3 really good picks who can contribute right away this year

Way too early for any optimism. Need to see how the draft and free agency plays out.
Is it though? That's the thing about time and space, you're feelings and perceptions are free to change with circumstance. There is no start date for "How you feel about next season".

This time and in this place, with all that I know (or think i know) I feel optimistic. If next week a meteor takes out Micah Parson's neighborhood then my feelings will regress in that time and space, with that knowledge. If that same meteor takes out Jones' village instead and we have to hire a new GM my optimism shoots through the badly oriented windows in the stadium. It's all relevant.

I doubt religious people weigh their chances of taking the elevator up vs down only in old age.

Actually, I was referring to the Cowboys own free agents. I understand that there is no chance the Cowboys would sign a top tier free agent even if they had the CAP money.

There is more to be positive about than negative.

Quinn returns and we really don’t know about the D players from last year’s draft class except one and he’s a stud for sure.

We got glimpses of what this offense can be and I agree with the OP, time to let Pollard be the RB1, providing he blocks better.

The best thing about the players that will return is that they know, to a man, they underachieved and we’re not ready for the playoffs. As a team, they let each other down.

The Dallas Cowboys need to stop defeating the Dallas Cowboys before that can take the next step.

1st - Kellen Moore, yeah that's right, I said it. This dude is still very young in terms of coaching experience. He turtled up when the big boys took the gloves off but he'll learn and he'll evolve. I bet he comes back with a vengence next year.

2nd - Dak, he'll be the main benefactor of Kellen's growth. I also think that leg hampered him more than we know, so the much needed rest should help.

3rd - We can't keep force feeding Zeke can we? Tony has out played him for 2 years. We gotta give him the rock. Or is management trying to make sure his 2nd contract is affordable? I can't imagine any other reason to not have him touch the rock more. I think it happens next year.

4th - Our schedulde (of course things change year to year). It didn't look tough before Brady retired, but now the Bucs aren't so scary. Does Rodgers leave GB too? If he ends up in Denver that's 2 HOF QBs we get to dodge.

Does it all add to a playoff victory or 2? Who knows, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Just my random thoughts while I wait for 5 oclock on what has been a far too busy day in the office.

I hope you're right, but Lucy has pulled the football too often for me to try preseason optimism again.

I too am optimistic about our prospects. I'm more interested in the Oline though. Do we go for the draft? or do we take a shot at free agency? Who's available?

I am super stoked about the possibility we could get D T help via the draft maybe even our future LB

i never believed the hype about us being a super bowl team, we needed more work, more players, Dan Quinn another year around here.

Let's Go Cowboys
This is not directed at you....I guess it is born out of 25+ years of frustration, but....

"We needed more work, more players".....this ALWAYS seems to be the case for the COWBOYS.

Bengals took a 3rd year head coach and a 2nd year QB....in a franchise that has not won a playoff game in over 30 years...and they are in the Super Bowl!!!!!!!!!

Why I think next year looks promising

Moronic GM with little knowledge of football? Check

Average HC with no power and lack of discipline? Check

OC learning on the job with no knowledgeable teacher so just winging it? Check

Average QB being paid like elite to hamper ability to improve roster? Check

Director of Personnel who believes FA is for teams who want to win championships only and not for us? Check

Undisciplined entitled players? Check

This is why I think next year will be great

The only positive thing about next season is that the NFC could really suck, lol.
No Brady, probably no Rodgers and/or Wilson, the 49ers will start Lance, no Sean Payton in NO

That means that probably no team from the NFC East, North or South will be better than the Cowboys, so yeah, there's optimism for sure.

Like you I’ll just remain “optimistic “ hoping that year 27 of the same people doing the same thing will magically work out LOL

I will not feel any optimism until they win th NFC championship. Even if they go 17-0 in the regular season I will be expecting the playoff collapse.
