Seriously though, that name has almost no correlation to the area or the team. You have a loose Navy tie-in because of the location next to the ocean, but you don't think of Washington and immediately think of it as a Navy town. It would be an apt name if they were also moving to Annapolis, MD. If they also announce a move to Annapolis, I'd think this was less stupid.

Commanders sounds like you polled third graders and asked them for a good name for a dodgeball team.

So bland. Home jerseys are ok but no theme anymore. Just a big W.....so boring. All that time to just come up with a W.....THe white jerseys look like crap. The black ones look NOTHING like a Washington jersey, more like Pittsburg or someone.

Ways to make fun of this one

Washington Commando Cody's for MSK3K fans.

Washington Condoms seems pretty interchangeable there.

  2. 2.
a member of a higher class in some orders of knighthood.

Commander is usually the 2nd in command in the military.

Does anyone notice on the years listed are wrong. I know they won the Championships in those calendar years technically but you go by the seasons you won not the calender years. They won the 1982, 87, 91 championships. It's really weird to go by the date you won your titles on instead of the season.

Yeah, but I've seen it too many times both ways at this point. It SHOULD always be the year the season starts since there's only like a couple of games in that next year. *shrugs*

I liked Red Hawks with its military and cultural connections.

I don't know why they didn't go with a warthog. Could be Red Hogs or something. Could have made a really cool angry warthog with tusks. Something like this.... https://encrypted-tbn0.***NOT-ALLOWED***/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRbxg27Nv11r88T_6EHyKPdPdu26Tk7jD03NvsoBe4O22BYaga01lExe98VWUpG-F3G2bQ&usqp=CAU

82 was a bit different with only 9 regular season games then a playoff tournament. The Deadskins played 5 of their 14 total games in January of 83. But that was the exception not the rule back then.

I thought this made the most sense because of their 80s-90S Gibbs era OLine and fans getting into the act a bit too with their Hog costumes. You could use it to make your teams identity too. But then again for most of the last 30 years the organization has been devoid of any real identity anyway.

Lol. Stupid.

Generic, sanitized PC milquetoast.
Just like anything coming from that area. I'm gonna try and say it quietly but I kinda liked their previous logo and nickname it was a solid logo never should have gotten cancelled honestly. But I got a feeling Cowboys is on the eventual chopping block too.

Sweathogs would have been interesting. Commanders is awful. Maybe Admirals or Generals. Why go further down the military officer rank.

It has been reported, many times, that they COULD not use the Red Wolves name as someone already had it and had it copyrighted.

So buy the copyright. I'm sure they can afford it. It was probably the same guys that got copyrights to a plethora of names.

I know that’s a joke, but why would that offend vegans?

Pig skins are used to make pork rinds, and in some circles, pork rinds are referred to colloquially by that name. But even if we're just talking about footballs being made of pig skin, vegans are against anything they consider animal exploitation or cruelty, which would include "pigskins" in reference to footballs.

Right, but how would calling your team pigskins change what they already view of nfl pigskin footballs?
