Aikman showed again why he’s the top analyst

I think Aikman is okay, maybe a little better than okay. I think Joe Buck's mic should be turned off most of the time. I do like Aikman's frankness. But sometimes I think he tries too hard not to be a Cowboys homer.

Romo has gotten too into his prognostications. He tries to call every play before the snap now. He is good at it but sometimes it is too much. But one thing about Romo, you can tell from his demeanor as an announcer why he was not a great leader on the field. He has a very "meh" attitude about what he does. He wings it and then shrugs his shoulders.

Witten was ok.....he certainly wasn't as terrible as everyone here wanted to believe. At least, not to me. I can't remember Emmitt doing any broadcasting. I do remember him on the pre-game shows. I thought he was fine....maybe a little less refined than some of the other pre-game hosts....but, it never bothered me.
ESPN was contacted by an organization of black educators about his grammar and the fact that he made a thing out of going back to get his degree only made it worse.

I like it when Troy is being honest about his former team. Why should he sugarcoat things if a team is playing good or not?

Because I typically don't listen to much of what the announcers have to say I don't really notice them all that much. Only occasionally when there is a big play of a big penalty I might tune them in but otherwise they're just background noise to the game. I never got the big deal over how bad Witten was supposed to have been. He was a might bland but who cares? That was the year that Monday Night Football landed a bunch of stinkers so you would have needed Madden, Cosell, Summerall, Michaels and Meredith all together to make those turds entertaining. Like you I don't remember Emmitt doing any games either.. I only remember him on one of the studio shows. I think it was the one on ESPN and he was fine.. The main complaint was that he talked like a country boy from the Florida panhandle.. because.. well you know.. he was a country boy from the Florida panhandle.

One thing I will say about Troy is that people are choosing to remember the good.. which is fine.. but there has definitely been times when he went overboard against the Cowboys.. Maybe not overtly but there has been dozens of times when a team would get away with an egregious penalty against the Cowboys and Troy and Joe would not utter a word but then the Cowboys would get away with a penalty and they would bend over backwards to let you know that "the Cowboys got away with one." Often in the same game. I think Troy is just like every other broadcaster in that he has bosses and he hears criticisms of his performance whether it be from said bosses or from fans social media or just walking around town and having fans walk up and ask him why he hates the Cowboys.. And because he is a human being he will have a tendency to correct in whatever direction he thinks he needs to in that regard. So some games he might sound like a Cowboy homer and some games he might sound like he can't stand them. Even if he's not doing so on purpose. It is what it is.. I think he does a good job overall but neither he nor any other broadcaster has ever been the reason I watched or did NOT watch a game.

If Romo wanted to be a coach, he should have gone into coaching.

He has not even worked on projecting his voice and is unprofessional and inconsistent.

All true about Aikman. The best and impartial. But...there were times he would get it wrong. They all do. No one is 100% correct. Hope Troy sticks around with FOX Sports. Forcing customers to pay for games played on Amazon will not work.

I like Witten too as a player. but he wasn't going to get a second season on MNF. Some even say he unretired as a graceful way to avoid not being fired. He was bad.

That was a terrible set up for him with Tessitore and McFarland. Written needing the same training that Aikman and Johnston received at Fox.

That’s why Greg Olson was a star in his rookie year, training.

Romo needs training and pairing him with his golf buddy Nantz was not good.

This was the main reason that Witten's stint on MNF failed. The chemistry between that group was terrible. Having Booger on that stupid crane on the sideline was annoying as hell and it was clear from the interaction that they often could not hear one another because they'd frequently repeat exactly what the last guy had said.. Disney screwed up that marriage .. and frankly the MNF crew is still bad.. but again.. if the games are good.. which many of them were this season, who cares?

Great story and spot on. Cowboy fans have been critical of Troy cause he calls it like he sees it often with critique of his former team but this is why he’s gained so much respect around the league is he doesn’t play favorites .

Some fans need "analysts" like Michael Irvin, just waving Cowboys pom-poms.

I like Mike, but when I'm watching a game I want the analyst to point out things a regular guy - as opposed to a HOF QB - might not pick up.

Some things can't be taught. Romo was good from day 1 and so was Aikman. So, was Moose. Some guys just think fast on their feet and can verbalize it. Others can't. Witten had no talent for this kind of work at all.

This is exactly why I dislike Aikman commentating the Dallas games.

You might think he “calls it like it is”, but the guy is blatantly biased against Dallas when it comes to stuff like penalties.

Might be in the minority here but I cant stand Troy anymore, and never could stand Buck, that babbling condescending smug idiot. IMO, Collinsworth is the clear #1 in the biz, alongside Al Michaels who has been the best for a long, long time now. Someone whom I think is quickly rising up the ranks and is already one of my favorites is Greg Olson. He knows football extremely well and has great delivery with some comedic punch but not too much (which i love bc he knows he aint a comedian so he doesn't try too hard).

I really liked Romo as a player but as an announcer, he is ok (IMO). He doesnt have the "pro announcer delivery" though and that at times can bug me. I like Aikman alot more though.

Yea, I’m not sure why all fans don’t see this. How can any fan not watch without some critique.

I agree. I may not always agree with him on everything he says on any game he is calling but I respect his views and know it has nothing to do with personal feelings. He is calling it as he sees it be it Dallas or any other team. You want praise from Troy during the game, you got to be making plays

I don't think Troy is ALWAYS blatantly biased against the Cowboys but yeah.. there have been times when he was.. especially when it comes to penalties. But again.. he has bosses.. those bosses get the hate mail complaining that "Troy is too homerish for the Cowboys" and come to Troy with it. And he has to adjust the other way.. Then a few weeks later the bosses come to him with hate mail that "Troy is biased against the Cowboys." It's a never ending cycle.. which is why I mostly watch games with the volume down.

I like Aikman and Buck as long as they aren't calling the Cowboys Game, something about when they do call our games that irks me even if we win. I think it is more Buck that gets under my skin because he is not a football guy so I am constantly telling him to shut up (thru the tv)

…..i do the same with the volume. I usually just put Joe Rogan on the headphones while watching the game
