Chase Young is a beast, but from a Washington perspective, I don't know if he's even better for the team than drafting Tua would have been. And Tua sucks, but what's the delta between him and Taylor Heinicke?

Some folks don’t understand the fundamental difference between a DE lining up opposite an OT and a LB blitzing a gap or off an edge.
OTs will block EDGEs if there is no RB protection help. Otherwise they block the DE (depending on alignment of course). Parsons has proven he is much better all around. He had sacks where he was lined up everywhere along the DLine and that even includes DT where he got double teamed (CAR game)

Chase Young had 7 sacks as a rookie. 5.5 of those came against nfc east opponents with backup tackles (the likes of Knight and rookie Steele). So he had 1.5 sacks against everyone else despite a dominating tackle tandem and a solid rusher on the other side

This year he skipped OTAs to shoot commercials and had a poor start before getting hurt.

I think he'll be a bust for his draft position. Clowney is a good comparison

He started 15 of a possible 16 games his rookie year, was relatively healthy in college, but then tore his ACL last year.

Why does that now make him injury-proned?
I wondered the same........Chase Young with that label that quickly?

We could actually use a Chase Young. Wow! Man gets hurt, and here come the naysayers.

Chase only appears to have one move and that's a dip and try to beat the tackle outside with speed. If he's stopped during that move its all over. I think he can be really good, but he certainly doesn't appear to be a technician when it comes to pass rushing. Regarding injuries who knows. Lots of guys get hurt and come back strong.
This sounds like a report from our Scouting Department and quite insulting to Chase Young. Don't think NFL teams, with film will grasp tendencies by Parsons to stifle him next year.

I was a naysayer before his injury though. He had some splash plays vs poor teams but almost nothing against good tackles. We'll see come this new season but I see struggles again

Yeah.

This isn't even a debate.

Parsons is the next great defensive player in the NFL.
True enuf, non debate.
Would love to have both on this defense, but if I can only choose 1 than its easy easy easy,, Parsons all day without any doubt.
Parsons manages to stay on this route and sustain his rookie numbers he will be our Aaron Donald,, @LB.
Quinn be loving him some Parsons.

Nine sacks for a rookie is pretty good. Can't relegate him to a bust because he got injured. No telling what he would have done - maybe had double-digit sacks.
I'm happy we have Parsons, but we don't have to downgrade Young because Parsons appears to have had the better rookies season.
Besides both Parsons and Young made the playoffs their rookie season and were one-and-done. Shrug.

Young has been a pretty big disappointment. He was decent his rookie year but team was expecting a breakout in year 2 and he was average. One whole sack I think…? I know he missed half the season but one sack through however many games….not impressive for a top draft pick.
Even Wash radio questioned him all year and openly pondered whether we was actually working on new moves and Chase said his moves were good. Wash radio took that to mean he wasn’t interested in learning and thought he was good enough already. It was not well received.

We really shouldn't be concerned with Chase Young, unless he's across the line from our OL. We got our own team's talent to evaluate or be baffled over. Just sayin'.
