Is it time for divisional realignment (i.e. get out of the NFCE)?

The anointing of the Commanders got me thinking, now that there's unequivocally no more "Cowboys vs Indians" rivalry, why are we still in the NFCE?

Are our NFCE rivalries that strong anymore?

Are we in it for the Eastern US media markets (...I can actually buy that one).

What say you? At what point do the Cowboys swap, for instance, with Tampa Bay, Carolina, or Atlanta and go into the NFC South?

Never going to happen. No chance we ever even see the hope of play offs in a stronger division.

We will be NFC East forever.

Yes on the rivalries.

The NFL and Jerry value them greatly.

Geography doesn't much matter.

Never happen.

60+ years of tradition.

Plus the big-market east coast teams know the Cowboys mean ratings, and they aren't giving that up.

The East in in a down cycle for sure, and with the lack of marquee QB talent in the division that will continue.

Dude…names?

You’re talking about four of the top television markets in the country along with media capital of the world and we’re not even mentioning the population base of the I-95 corridor.

And finally there is 50 years of history.

I guess there’s no such thing as a bad idea but geesh.

C’mon man.

Staying here is our only hope of at least making the playoffs. imagine we are in any other division football would be over before the trade deadline every year.

This assumes all divisions stay the same forever. They don't. For many years the NFC East was always one of the strongest in football. That changed, now one of the weakest. It will change again, as will other divisions.

Swapping with Carolina makes the most sense. I’m all for it.

Well what they should do is reshuffle all the divisions, AFC AND NFC to a more regional accuracy, and would mean way less travel for div games.

Dallas would then be in NFC South div with...
1.Dallas
2.houston
3.New Orleans
4.Arizona

if this was the new div there would be strong houston rivalry, and also with ariz and NO.
it would be a much tougher div for all of these teams to win, but that would make it way more fun to watch.

As it is we dont belong in the east div, and all those teams suck , I no longer care about those rivalrys. They ruined wash, phil is well you know.
and nyg will be a joke for awhile, and I just dont enjoy those div games with these teams anymore. it is kinda boring.

Afc east div
would not have miami in it lol miami and buffalo in same div is insane.

I think it would make things more interesting to have all new divisions. Start some new rivalrys.

winning a weak div means being one and done in playoffs, just like this year, so it doesnt do you much good really does it?

See what happens when the NFL adds teams. They are going have to keep it even somehow which means adding in multiples of 8 (one team for each division) or combining divisions and increasing the number of teams in each.

Names or nicknames are associated with rivalries. They do not create or sustain them.

The NFC South was mentioned. One of its and the league's biggest rivalries exists between New Orleans and Atlanta. Saints and Falcons. Names did not create the bad blood between the two clubs and their fanbases.

Wait until the first fights break out between Dallas and Washington this upcoming season. Pay attention to the jabs and insults thrown between the fanbases during the offseason.

The rivalry did not become null-and-void after Washington's announcement. It could be argued no one with real influence over implementing divisional realignment gave the change any consideration whatsoever.

Not true. Saints were replaced by Gnats & Cards moved out of the East. The NFC East is currently the only division in the league in which all four current teams have won at least one Super Bowl, and have appeared in multiple Super Bowls.

I like being in the East and while it has been for the most part down the NFC East has still won more SB than any division in the NFL and is the only division where every single team in the NFC East has won a SB.
