Leftwich was smart and declined. He wants Baalke gone and I guess Jags didn't want him to be gone. Which is odd........
Thank you for the update, that is perplexing, thought he would have been perfect there.

I’ve just been working a lot lately. With draft season here, I’m going to try to get back to posting a little more. Draft season is one of my favorite times of the year.
Good, then I will look forward to some solid discussions.

Some believe Reich was the brains of that operation…

May have been, but we don't know that. All we know is that Pederson was the coach when the Eagles won the Super Bowl. A lot of these other hires are based on hope that they've found the next hidden gem of a coach. Pederson may not be a gem, but he's done it. That deserves recognition in my eyes when you are looking for a head coach.

That's why I was OK with the McCarthy hire. He may never achieve what he did in Green Bay, but I feel better about the chances than if the Joneses had done something like promote Moore. Finding coaches to win Super Bowls isn't easy, so I'd rather go with one who has. If McCarthy fails, Payton would be next on my list for the same reason.

I agree with your points.

It was never offered ........He withdrew his name before their decision, but he wasn't getting it anyway. Not after the stupid power move with the GM.

It's not stupid to not want to work with a guy who has fired every head coach he's worked with in the last 5 stops after one year.

You could say it was stupid to even interview with the Jags knowing Balke was there, but could you imagine a young guy not interviewing for a head coaching position when offered?

Leftwich was smart here

dumb move, should have hired Byron Leftwich

I wanted leftwich to be the coach, but Pederson is not a bad selection.

Actually I wanted Pederson for the Bears, as they are the pet team I follow (Dad was a bears fan).

I agree 100% not wanting to work for the GM but his strategy/plan was misguided. Why interview at all, politely decline, and move on but to think he had enough clout to tell the owner to fire his GM cost I have my own was bold/risky. Think about it, there are nine openings, ONE TEAM, maybe two ( Saints ), made a request to interview him but I'm hot enough to bring my own GM. (LOL)

Pederson is probably a good hire for the Jags. He faces an uphill battle and the defacto GM Trent Baalke seems to have no one really trusting/liking him so we shall see if Pederson does long term. They probably should have cleaned house and began from a new GM on down. But it's the Jags.
