I was fortunate enough to watch him play for Oregon at memorial stadium in Austin when they played the Longhorns a looonng time ago. I was a kid, and got to watch some memorable games in the “knot hole” section of memorial stadium (the end zone for .50 cents!)

Football memories, we never forget them do we?

I went to elementary school with his son Melvin and reached out to Mel a few weeks ago to see how he was and sadly he told me he passed away a year or so ago, far too young.

He was a really nice kid and kind to me at a time when many of the other kids weren't. I was sad when he moved away and hoped our paths would cross again some day, maybe on the other side....

Gotta love it....

Receptions denied.
Passes intercepted.
Sure -and willing - tackler.
Hard hitter.
Outstanding kickoff returner.
Superb punt returner.
'Razon' - Thank You Very Much for posting that video clip of one of the greatest Dallas Cowboys Players in the history of this franchise.
Mel Renfro's NFL career also embodied the willingness to play any position Tom Landry analyzed as the most impactful he would be for the team at that particular time = season.
Judging from that film - Mel Renfro had the ability and determination to succeed in every capacity on the gridiron.
