Morning Pops and Texas Dodge'Em Cars or aka the annual winter extravaganza, Fools On Ice. Driving on snow can be learned but ice is different. Especially when you are ignorant enough to ignore the presence of the ice.

The roundabout that surrounds the main fountain out my back door has bricks for pavement. They are really a problem with ice because it fills in the nooks and crannies like a Thomas English Muffin and it becomes a skating rink. I've already seen a spin out into the fountain wall with only two cars even out on the blvd.. However, half of them crashed.

Cold, windy with some precip falling means staying inside and hunkering down. I have provisions, aka known as booze, and enough wood to have a nice comfy cozy fire. I do think this weather coming with the Winter Olympics is quite a treat and will add some outside movements to my inside ice skating moves emulating the athletes.

Monkey see, monkey do
Monkey fall, monkey blue.

Good morning Pops and Friends,

When you make a road trip, do you have favorite songs or genre you like to hear?

I spent a couple of hours snow-plowing the back roads in our area yesterday. I love it when neighbors peer from their balconies and slowly shake their heads as if saying, "What's wrong with him?" I just smile and crank up my road trip tunes:

Highway to Hell - AC/DC (seems particularly appropriate given I am plowing mountain roads with a steep drop-off on one side)

Born to Run - Springsteen

Radio GA GA - Queen

Almost anything by Bob Seger

Drove All Night - Roy Orbison

Ride of the Valkyries - Wagner. Now, this gets my blood boiling

Almost everything by Enya - Not really road trip music, but puts in my happy place before returning home.

Think I may mount a couple of Bose all weather speakers on the top of the s ow plow... just to share my joy with the neighbors.

Highway to Hell plays on the radio about 60% of the times I'm on my way to NYC. Coincidence?

You may wish to consider adding Aerosmith's Livin' on the Edge.

BIG fan of Enya’s music!!! I love sitting on the front porch (especially in the middle of the night) during a thunderstorm and listening to her music.

Road trips to… more into oldies, Motown and the like

Runny! Are y'all using all our good rock salt on the roads? It's the magic ingredient in homemade ice cream. We'd better not hear of a shortage, or the south will rise again. This time, it's personal.

Montanalo, here's an artist I like a lot, particularly her Life For Rent CD. It has a specific vibe to it.

I feel like it must be a different type of rock salt. I could be mistaken, but the stuff I spread on my driveway doesn't look like it'd be good with chocolate syrup on it.
