Aikman said he remains optimistic about the future of the team.
"I think we have a bright future, sure," he told The Daily Oklahoman. "But I don't know where we're at exactly. I don't know how good we are. I don't know how bad we are. I don't know. We've been talking since October about running the table and going to the Super Bowl."
Sanders said he may not play if the Cowboys don't have a realistic shot at a Super Bowl.
"If I don't think there's a team inside that locker room going to the Super Bowl, I can't play," Sanders said. "I'm getting too old for this mess. I can't do it. If we don't feel we can put a team on the field that can win it all, there's no reason to play."
Sanders, however, was not in a rush to make any decisions right away.
"I might change my mind when I calm down," he told The Dallas Morning News. "And when I get my paycheck on Tuesday, I'll probably want to play."
