Played a couple hours of Elden Ring last night and lets just say the game kicked my rear. Then again started with a Wretch. All this being said the game ran fine and stutter free with the following hardware and settings.
i7-4790K
16 GB DDR3 Ram
MSI Gaming 1070
2 TB Samsung SSD
@4K resolution.

Glad to hear you had no stuttering issues with a 1070 card.

Maybe that means they fixed it or if not, then people may have their settings set too high or it may be a graphics driver issue.

Possibly. Have a friend with a 3080 and said it runs fine. The latest Nvidia drivers are a couple weeks old, i would expect a new set of drivers very soon.
About the settings, i always lower AA especially since i am running at a higher resolution. Motion blur and Depth of Field always get turned off.

I always lower the AA in most games as well regardless of whether I need to do it.

10
I don't believe{?} my processor is supported by 11.
I have no plans to upgrade to Windows 11 because new Microsoft keeps doing old Microsoft shady things.

I spend most of my time in linux except for gaming so if/when the day comes they stop supporting Windows 10 (supposedly in 2025), I will likely move to consoles then for new games that no longer work with Windows 10.

Didn't they say at one time that 10 was the last OS they would make?

My desktop is like 4 years old and it says it won't support Win 11. I have an Intel i7 with 32 GB of ram. It's not a gaming machine by any means, but it should be able to handle an OS. Kind of annoys me. lol

Maybe I just don't understand the inability to support certain processors.

Mine is a 4th generation "Haswell" chip. While still being a very good chip with a speed of 4.0ghz and turbo of 4.4ghz and 4 cores/8 threads it isn't supported by 11. From what i have read you need a 8th generation or newer Intel chip to run W11.

Yes, they did :D

They could not make all of the rule changes they are making and planning to make with Windows 11.

For example, they are removing the option to create a local-only account so they can force you to login with a Microsoft account which will make their tracking and telemetry updates easier to associate with you.

There is always the "disconnect the internet during installation" trick but I suspect at some point they will take that away as well.

My gaming laptop is my main workstation and it is a 4th gen Haswell also and still plays most games I played in recent years quite well.

I built a new gaming PC around a year ago that should meet all of the Windows 11 requirements, but I plan to keep running Windows 10 at this point until forced to upgrade.

  • Windows 95
  • Windows Me
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 10
  • Windows 11

Maybe I will upgrade to Windows 12 :D

Maybe the Cowboys will get another ring by then, And yes, Haswell's are still very good chips. They kind of remind me of the Sandy Bridge chips or the old AMD Phenom chips. Very good performance with a good lifespan.

For those who do not know, GOG is located in Warsaw, Poland.

That is wonderful.

The developers of some of my favorite games are located in the Ukraine, Best Way/Men of war assault squad 1/2 and GSC Game World with the Cossacks series and the well known Stalker series. I have probably 2000 hours of multiplayer action in the Men of War series and Cossacks.

I had a hard time starting out as well, but I went with Bandit. That all changed when I found the Bloody Slash art of war. Not I’m triggering bleed status really fast and cruising.

I’m on PS5 and it has been mostly smooth. YouTube channel Digital Foundry said the latest patch actually made things worse, so hopefully a fix for that mistake is on the way.

I cannot believe the PC version of Elden Ring does not support ultra-wide monitors and FromSoftware said they have no plans to support it which means you have to play it at 16x9.

Even worse, it is capped at 60fps on PC with no DLSS support.

It sounds like it was designed for consoles and the PC version was just an afterthought.

Worse yet, it seems this was mostly designed for PS4 in mind, more specifically the PS4 Pro. I imagine the next-gen stuff started to get prioritized halfway through development.

I've just been playing the PS4 version of it - not a ton of visual difference outside of grass. Amazing game with secrets around every corner. A game like this shouldn't be bogged down with such poor optimization. Inexcusable.
