What if the Cowboys had drafted Randy Moss in 1998?

I've heard interviews with Aikman where he talks about this scenario. He admitted it would have been fun to get a chance to be the center point of the offense, because he knows he would have been passing all day to Moss, Irvin and Rocket. (assuming we even both to sign Rocket with Moss onboard) Just don't rely on those TEs we had in those days. Blech. The only worry I'd have if Aikman would mess up the deep ball would be his back problems that started getting much worse around this time too.

Actually in an interview a few years ago Aikman said his concussions had nothing to do with it.

Per a Dallas Morning News interview December 2016:
"Aikman said that the perception surrounding his retirement was because of concussions. He said he retired for a reason completely different.

"All these people think I got out of the game because of head injuries," he said. "Concussions had nothing to do with it, absolutely nothing to do with my retirement. Ultimately, the reason I retired after 12 years was because I felt that I had worked hard to develop some level of credibility and respect within this game. And I felt like that was being jeopardized by decisions that were being made beyond my control within the organization. And I didn't want to be a part of it anymore."

Whoa. Never heard that, but it doesn't shock me at all.

I never knew that either.

The component of the Randy Moss saga that most miss is the culture of the Cowboys in those days. Frankly it was a mess.. I have very little doubt that had the Cowboys drafted him, Michael Irvin would have taken Moss under his wing and gotten him caught up in the hard-partying, *****-banging, coke-snorting lifestyle.. and as a result Moss would never have developed into the receiver he eventually would. I think getting sent to Minneapolis, away from the white hot lights of Dallas and under reformed alcoholic Chris Carter vs still hard partier Michael Irvin was the best thing that could have happened to him. I take no pleasure in saying it.. but that is truly what I believe.
