The wife and I are having an argument (light weight)

I went to Jack In The Box today ordered 8 tacos. 8.01.

I hand a girl a 10, she asks me......you have a penny?
I reach in my pocket thinking I did but wrong, so......sorry!

Ok I expected her to simply shine the penny. Yep...forget it.

Nope....she hands me a buck and 99 cents.

I ran that by the wife.....she did the right thing,

I disagree, so...????

Some places are really anal about cashiers balancing their drawers so she was probably just doing her job.

I get that but have had similiar situations over a penny, most the time they would rather shine it than do the change thing. The need for three quarters, two dimes, four pennies....hmmm?

You don’t have a bunch of spare change in your console? I probably have $10 at least…:lmao2:

BTW, she did the right thing, that wasn’t the 7-Eleven penny tray

You know, curious how this would have worked (with people in line behind me)

Me.....tell ya what I have a penny in my truck, I'll go get it. (which sends out.....talk about petty girl) don't need all that change. Betting she.....forget it.

Some people are more robotic than human. That is especially the case with new hires. So yes, you are wrong on this one. The world owes you nothing.

Man, this thread just made me realize how little I deal with actual cash anymore......And I used to be totally anti-bank, used cash for everything...but since 2015 Ive rarely paid for anything with physical paper or coins....One of those things that really makes you reflect.....

You're wrong. While it would have been nice, she was under no obligation to and in businesses like that a cashier can be fired for not having their register match what it's supposed to have by too little or even too much.

I remember in high school when I worked fast food, it was like that. You were even off by a penny and you'd get written up.

Some businesses are more lax, others aren't. If the price is 8.01 and you pay cash, better expect loose change if you don't pay with exact change.

I recently saw a news article that claimed there is another coin shortage, so I wouldn't be surprised if cashiers have been instructed to give up the penny to save 99 cents in change.

But under normal circumstances, I think the cashier was in the right.

You were in the wrong for ordering 8 tacos at Jack-in-the-Box and that's what your wife should cut you off for.

The tacos were actually her idea, in case ya don't know here is a unique taco, it has a totally different taste. AND.....1.48 for two. Can't beat that.

Just messin' witya, I know people who swear by their tacos and one is a chef at one of the top Dallas fine dining restaurants.

I've been in the same situation, but not at Taco Bell. If they have a penny dish, they'll put in, but if not, I'm getting back a pocketful of change, and while I hate carrying around 99 cents in coins, I don't get upset with the person doing his/her job. If they put in change for people all day long, they could end up being a few dollars off, and why should they sacrifice their money, when they're working to try to make money?
