Cousins led Washington to the playoffs three times. He had the same playoff record in Washington that Matt Stafford had in Detroit. Cousins led Minnesota to a playoff win and may have won a Super Bowl with the Rams. Washington made the playoffs once since Cousins left and they did it with only 7 wins. They’ve gone through several backup QBs since Cousins walked and wasted a first round pick on Dwayne Haskins. They could have used that first round pick for Haskins to build around Cousins. They’re going to continue burning premium draft picks trying to find a QB. Doug Williams said a couple weeks ago they’re going to struggle until they find a franchise QB.
3 times? I'm seeing 2012 and 2015 they went to the playoffs with Cousins on the roster. In 2012 RG3 was the starter with the exception of just a few games. Let me know if i'm missing something there.

I'm with you 100% that Cousins is probably good enough to win a superbowl with a team like the Rams, I would say Dak is as well. We see that the vast majority of teams wont go all in quite like the Rams have though. Would Washington have made similar moves? maybe, maybe not. They would have certainly had more draft capital to spend on non qbs, they also probably arent picking nearly as high in the draft though, nor able to spend as much on FAs. That argument is a double edged sword that we just dont really know the answer to. Kirk has had some really good teams in Minnesota and come up short. He even had some good teams in Washington, but I think they have issues that run much deeper than roster construction. I just cant see Cousins being the difference in them making a superbowl or not. Even the year after Cousins left they werent horrible with Alex Smith. It was after his injury that they were gone from playoff contention.

o_O Far from it. He was constantly flushed out of the pocket being the Oline couldn't protect him, thus Dak made early decisions to take off & run extended drives & threw the defense into a state of confusion.
Was in the mood to ruffle some feathers in here for a Monday.:muttley:

Dak was ranked 22nd in rushing. He is not running that much!

He actually had two playoff appearances with Washington and two playoff appearances with Minnesota giving him a 1-3 playoff record. I see him very similar to Matt Stafford as a QB who puts up good numbers but has a little to show for it. Put the right team around him and you can win. Washington had something going in 2020 with their defense but struggled at QB. Rivera is going to be on the hot seat heading into next season.

Ah I see what you're saying. You're counting games they played in the playoffs, I was talking about years they went to the playoffs. I'm with you 1000% guys like Cousins and Dak can win with quality teams around them, I just think that becomes a lot harder to do once you pay a QB top money. Not saying it cant be done either, it just gets tougher. I think both Minnesota and Dallas is seeing that currently. Overall decent squads, but just a few other bad contracts and it becomes extremely difficult to compete with the top teams in the league.

It becomes harder once you pay top money to a QB but that’s the NFL salary cap world we live in. If you’re lucky to hit on a QB you’re going have to end up paying them or you’ll be going through a string of castoffs and draft picks trying to find one. QB money keeps going up every year. It won’t be long before a QB is making $50 million per season. The Ravens are going to have a dilemma because Lamar Jackson is probably going to be looking for that kind of money. He’s passing numbers are weak but his mobility makes him an electrifying player.

Cowboys are paying Dak 40 million... there will be no competition for the starting job... PERIOD.

there wouldn't be a competition. Dak would beat out Mariotta black and blue.....this was a stupid article and you hatred towards Dak is getting the better of your judgement.
So your saying that it wouldn't even be competitive?

o_O "Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott has been entrenched as the starting signal-caller for quite some time. Perhaps it’s time that Jerry Jones and the team’s brass brought in a proven starter such as Marcus Mariota to get a quarterback battle, or controversy, going in Dallas.

Prescott is a lightning bolt for debate among NFL fans. Some feel he’s overrated and pads his numbers with meaningless fourth-quarter stats accumulated in “garbage” time. Others see him as a two-time Pro Bowler, which is something that doesn’t grow on trees.

On the other hand, it could be argued Prescott’s status has never been challenged. The only time he wasn’t the starter was due to injury. Mariota could certainly provide a spark in Dallas if Jones signs him with the opportunity to at least challenge Prescott. Would this create a media circus? Likely. However, as we all know, Jones is no stranger to controversy." https://insidethestar.com/
mainly if they did mariotta would never get to play unless dak was hurt enough to not play.
No way if dak was playing poorly, would mike or any HC of dallas pull dak and put in the bkup.

they could do that with rush, but they didnt . dallas coaches dont put bkups in unless the starter goes down and cant play.

So there is no competition for the job, and never will be.

Why would he want to sign with another team to stay a backup??

He is going to sign somewhere he can at least compete.

Also when is the last time Dallas paid legit money for a backup outside of Dalton?
Tony Romo was Dak's backup in 2016 or did you forget?

No argument from me here, and Ill leave it at this because despite being on different sides of the aisle I think we are closer in opinion than we probably think. You have to have a QB to have a realistic shot at post season success...at least on a consistent basis. Personally I would always keep my options open unless I had a year in and year out undeniable top 10 guy at QB. Keeping my options open doesnt mean this ridiculous post of bringing in Marcus Mariota, or going with an Andy Dalton/Cam Newton type who will command $30MM less. If you have a realistic chance to grab a Brady (a couple years ago), Rodgers, etc I'm not letting Dak or Cousins stop me. Now given cap constraints (admittedly more from other bad deals than Daks) i'm assuming we dont have much of an option and love him or hate him we need to get used to seeing Dak in a Cowboys uniform for the next two years minimum.

And seriously scout the UDFA market after the draft and bring in a # 3 . Ben DiNucci has run his course meeting MM on an elevator should only bag so many paychecks .
