I mean I get it as he sort of was a jack of all trades on the defense plugging hole after hole, but my question is: why did you wait until now?

I'm sure Stephens first offer was 15 million a year

“In related news, it was reported Kearse and his agent asked for a glass of water during the negotiations and Jerry subsequently closed the door on any new contract.”

Stephen Jones talking to Kearse "okay Jayron, let me tell you about Pie. There is only so much to go around and we'd like you to be apart of the team. Many safeties out there would like this (slices off a piece of pie). We really like you, and would love to make you an honest offer. (Proceeds to cut off a small piece of the crust). What do you think Jayron, would like you to be apart of what we're building here?"

Stephen Jones talking to Schultz "let me tell you about Pie. We really like you Dalton and want to make you an honest offer. Most teams will offer you a small piece, however we here in Dallas view you differently. (Cuts off a large piece of pie and puts whip cream on it). If this isn't good enough we can always offer you more. What say you Dalton?"

The Joneses have said before that they don't like to negotiate until there's pressure on both sides to get a deal done. I think what they forgot is the other side can always leave and get a deal done elsewhere, so really the pressure is just on the Joneses to offer enough to keep them from leaving.

Surprised Kearse' camp not choosing to test the market in FA.
Services to the highest bidder.

We do really need him.
- Really tough to find capable, consistent starting safety
- He emerged as a team leader, signal caller for the defense.

That is the laziest approach I ever heard. You can save money if you get people locked up early. I am sure the Bills are thrilled they have their QB locked up now versus having to do that negotiation after Rodgers new deal comes out.
