Are you ok with throwing away 2022 to get Payton and clear cap for 23?

Seems like that’s what Stephen is doing. Jerry wants Sean and wants to make it the most attractive situation possible for him. Wouldn’t be surprised if players who get injured shut it down early to improve draft stock also next year.

I feel bad for McCarthy. 2020 was decimated by injuries and 2022 the team is organically tanking. He had his 1 shot last year and that will be it.
No, Payton has been overrated. Should’ve won a bowl the last few years with Bree’s but he is too hung up on passing the ball. He hates to run the ball

If we throw it all away that means a top 5 pick.

Rumor is the Saints expect nothing lower than a first rounder.

So in answer to OP, no.

Would rather pick another good coach and ride with the elite draft position.

I totally agree. But I don’t think the Jones feel the same way.

Jerry is going to be 80 in October. You’re out of your mind if you think he’s going to just have a rebuild season.
Jerry may still want to win, but winning is not Stephen’s main priority.Building the family business comes 1st.

Throw it all away is different than maximizing your resources for 2023 which is what they’re doing. They don’t want to go 3-14 next year. They do want to make sure 2023 is best situation possible even at expense of 2022. They could have restructured Amari if they were all in on 2022. He’ll still be a good player the next 3 years. Them choosing not to tells a lot.

Yes, Jerry has been playing the long game for 27 years .

Sometimes the correct answer is the most obvious…this off-season is just a further example of the incompetence displayed by the front office for decades.

The Jones Boys 30-year plan is about to come together.

Payton getting several years of head coaching experience was part of it, but now he's stepped down and is preparing for the ultimate prize.

Why would anyone assume Payton is coming here? Love him or hate him, he'll have options that don't involve working under the thumb of an old fool who knows 1% as much about football as he does, and on top of that, the Saints will want a #1 draft pick.

Not happening.

Only if it means Zeke and Dak are gone after the year too.

This team is not going anywhere with those players. I'm guessing, or at least hoping, they will get rid of Zeke whenever it is financially worth it. But they are stuck with Dak barring a trade which will never happen.

We will do what we always do next year. We will hover around 500.

Doesn't matter what Jerry and fans think or feel. When you are cap srapped --ONCE AGAIN -- and the team doesn't produce on the field, it is a recipe for problems.
