Third option...let all of them walk. Get bigger WR's and a bigger TE, so run blocking and wearing down a defense gets better. Dak can't win without a hundred yards on the ground, so cater the offense to help Dak. Build a team that can get'er done on the ground.

Get better big uglies on that line and pound the rock.
(let's play keep away)
A strong running game can be a QB's BFF.

Lol... you do realize Shultz was a big beneficiary of Cooper and Lamb, and he's a liability in the run game.

I like how you got nothing to say about the career high 8 TDs. LOL Like that's irrelevant here or even with that said he's somehow still well worth top dollar. Yet a middle of the pack TE who is a beneficiary of such stellar play can easily put that up?

thats tough.
but i still go coooooooooop.
draft a wr and te.
i love gallup and i'm glad he apparently is staying...but i'm worried how he looks coming back.
atleast with cooooop....theres no knee injury.

but they wouldn't do this if they didn't feel good about gallup's recovery.

It looks to me like that’s what it came down to based on the salary cap. The Cowboys had to choose between keeping Cooper or the combination of Gallup and Schultz. Clearly we see what Dallas chose, what would your preference have been?

I definitely would have kept Cooper.

Appreciate the post.
I guess I just don't agree that it was one or the other.
We could have kept all 3.
Coop could have been restructured at a cap savings of over 12 mil.
I get the kick the can argument, but the fact is the cap is slated to expand tremendously in the next few years, as the Covid hangover clears and the new TV deal kicks in. The cap could go as high as 248 next year, potentially a 40 mil increase.
I also get that he had a top of position contract and we were getting less than a top of position performance.
I just wonder how much of that was our OC being in over his head.
The Kurt Warner video comes to mind for me, pointing out how foolish our schemes were in the Niners playoff loss.
I think you'll see good WRs going for as much or more than Coops contract in the next few offseasons, as the Cap explodes.
Dumping a top WR for nothing is not good asset managment. We gave up a 1st for him remember. That's horrible management. Buy high/trade low, that's the Cowboy way under the Jones'.
Maybe if we hadn't given our solid but unspectacular QB a top of the league contract we wouldn't be in such a cap pinch.
I would have restructed Coop (and DLaw, and Collins BTW), kept Gallup and Schultz.
You'd be set at the position heading into the draft and FA and could always trade one of them later, maybe when their value was higher.
As it is we threw Coop under the bus, destroyed any trade value he may have had, then traded him for peanuts.
Well done.

No need to FT Shultz. Get Wagner in FA and draft a TE. This was a no brainer.

Logically, you keep Cooper.

But not here.

Our QB is comfortable throwing go routes down the sideline and to tight ends and running backs.

So Schultz and Gallup make more sense.

Until you realise that the attention Coop draws is what frees up Gallup for go routes and prevents the opposing D from bracketing the underneath stuff to Schultz. Our QB won't look so comfortable anymore.

They decided on youth that will be cheaper in the long run. I would of kept Cooper, but they would had to decide him or Lamb later

There’s still time. Pull that tag.

Sign him (Schultz) to a deal (like 3-30).
9 Mil bonus and 2 mil salary in year one.
Drops his cap number from 11 to 5 this year, puts 11 mil in his pocked this season just like the FT.
Everybody gets what they want.
Yes, it adds liability in coming years but that is managable for a really good young player as the cap expands.

No other TEs have benefited. We could’ve just kept Rico. What’s funny is still thinking Cooper is worth 20 million and then you can’t figure out why the team never wins anything! The salary had to go.

Lol... you talk about salary Cap, yet you want to pay a TE like he's a top 5 TE . kelci, Andrews, Goddard, Kittiles..
Salary cap and contracts don't stop anybody from winning. Rams proved that this year.

He's top 5 in scoring at the TE position!!!!! LMAO More TDs than Kittles and double what Goddert put up. Franchised to get a long term deal done. Rams had a coach heading into year 5. If you think this team is in the same position compared to a team that was 3 and 3 in the playoffs with a super bowl loss in 4 seasons then you're not really paying attention.

OMG! Get over it. Coops gone. In his 4 seasons w/Dallas he only had 2 seasons with 1,000 plus yards. Not worth the money. Missed several crucial games last season as well.

If they could, Elliott would be gone too. Unfortunately, WE have to watch his petty performance for one more season due to the cap hit if they released him for the 2022 season.

I don't care about his 8 tds, i see his full game, in this offense with the weapons we had outside you could replace him, Shuktz was a Dak check down option.

Lol he had 1 season over 4 tds, and you want to pay him 10 million probably more when it's said and done...lol
You claiming he's anything close to Goddert and Kittles is asinine. I don't care if the coach was in year 5 or not, salary cap is the salary cap with the same rules that apply.
