Now draft Christian Watson the 2nd. Put Watson and Gallup outside and Lamb in the slot.

The $62 mill means nothing, it could all be funny money for all we know.

Edit...............looks like the guaranteed money is $27 mill, so basically $5 mill a year cap charge. Thats actually a pretty good deal, if his knee is shot we can get out of the deal without too much of a cap hit and if he is good to go its actually a bargin.
Thats a ridiculous comment - where does the other 35 million go? It hits the cap!

$12.5 million per year, eh? Stephen played hardball, again.

I personally thought 12.5 mil a little high depends on the structure like what is the 2022 number and are there any outs later

Hopefully this new contract won't cause him to "semi-retire" like it has done to other Cowboy players recently.

gallup is good at catching the deeper passes, but dak is not throwing those, and usually doesnt have time to !
I doubt jones boys considered that.
Defenses have been taking away the deeper passes and forcing underneath throws havent they"?"

If Gallup would have signed this deal elsewhere it would have been " wow thats a steal!" Since we made the deal its " thats too much". Cowboys fans are never satisfied.

I think it would have been a shorter term 1 or 2 year deal from others. Most teams wouldn't sign a player to a long term contract in that situation unless maybe they had a longer track record of all-pro to pro bowl type seasons or it was just a really good deal. If Gallup is the 2019 Gallup its a fine deal, but keep in mind this contract paid him low-end WR1 money. I would expect him to be a difference maker and contribute 1k+ yards and 6+ tds a season. He's done that once in his career.

The other $35 million and whether it or a portion of it ever hit the cap depends on if Gallup is on the roster for the full 5 years. So he's right in the sense that it's possible that the Cowboys may never have to take the full $62 million in cap charges.

Let's say Gallup's deal has 5 years of base salary at $9 million per year. He also has a signing bonus of $17 million. The first year of base salary is also guaranteed plus the 2nd year bonus of $1 million which gets you to the $27 million guaranteed money. The contract would look like this:

Year 1 - $9 million base + $3.4 million prorated bonus = 12.4 million cap hit
Year 2 - $8 million base + $1 million bonus + $3.4 million prorated bonus = 12.4 million cap hit
Year 3 - $9 million base + $3.4 million prorated bonus = 12.4 million cap hit
Year 4 - $9 million base + $3.4 million prorated bonus = 12.4 million cap hit
Year 5 - $9 million base + $3.4 million prorated bonus = 12.4 million cap hit

But let's say the Cowboys decide to cut Gallup after Year 2. If that happens, they never have to take a cap hit on $27 million of remaining base salaries owed. They would have to take a $10.2 dead money hit, however.

That is why we need to work on improving the OLine next. Create a running game with better run blocking and the play action actually works. Also, an improved OLine gives Dak time to wait for down the field plays to develop. The first step is securing a better LG. The next step is determining whether we need an upgrade at C. Unfortunately, the only player on our line that I have complete confidence in is Martin. Smith is a stud WHEN healthy. We can’t completely rebuild the whole line but LG and C would be a great start.

They will add whatever comes in the NFL draft.. to what and who they deem as "core key " vets that they have priority in re-signing. While they sop up what they
want as bargain based filler type vets in FA.

That's the frame work formula and team philosophy of Stephen Jones, whose been given more control and front office power than ever before and more than
what many posters refuse to believe.
I agree to an extent but if they sit there in the 1st round with a wide receiver or a DE with the same grade they are not taking the wide receiver.....that's not their MO...

Gallup is a reliable #2 when on the field. I don't have a problem with this. I have far more issues with Cooper and his contract and ghosting on the field.
