Wow, somebody does not understand the difference between guaranteed and non-guaranteed money.

If Gallup is traded or released before his contract expires, only the guaranteed money will count against the cap. Why do you think Cooper was traded and our cap went up $20 million? Because he had no guaranteed money left on his deal, although his 2022 pay would convert to guaranteed money on the 5th day of the new league year. That is why they had to make a move with Cooper before then.

When looking at contracts, never just look at the total of the contract. Agents like to add huge amounts to the end of the deal to make it look really impressive in order to attract more clients, but everybody knows the player will almost certainly never see that money. Only thing that really matters on contracts is the guaranteed money, that is what really affects your cap.

It's sticker shock. The franchise amount for a WR is $19m. So IOW he is making ~60% of what top WR make. Seems reasonable to me.

If I am Gallup, I am also very happy about the guaranteed money I made.

50-60% guaranteed is the normal negotiating range for big contracts so that's nothing unusual, but the 5 year deal means he gets $27M guaranteed total. That's a big haul compared to say a 1 year prove-it deal.

Well sort of!!! There's certainly expected to be a jump in the CAP, but a lot of that is taken by Daks 2023-2024 and then over $20m Void money in 2025.
What the Gallup/Coop scenario has done is made everything manageable and allows us to operate without extending the those dreadful aging injury hit contracts.
We have taken the CAP medicine this year so that our debts are manageable from here on...even may be able to afford a couple of treats in a year or two....all of this and we are still the favorites to win the Least (the dream that this roster were SB bound died in January).

Dak will be getting restructured again next season. Not doing it is probably not even a consideration.

Sensible option to apportion to 2025 or even 2026, yes Void money but we've always operated with some dead money.
The 'crisis' was 2022 and 2023.
As it stands the annual Zack and Dak monies will fund additions in 2023.

Dont want to be offensive but how do you know that his dead money hit would be very reasonable ? The details of his deal are not public right now.

The only part that was published is that his guaranteed money is 27 mils. That could mean guaranteed, it could also be fully guaranteed. Latter means it could be his signing bonus (that figure btw was anticipiated by some mediots).

But right now nobody knows. If the 27 mils is his signing bonus then i have to agree with the former poster you answered to: He would be hard to be cut in his first 3 years because of the dead money it would leave behind. And that would mean this is another bad deal for us. Especially for a player coming from a bigger injury.

BTW: Its not ok to me to title others to run their mouth without any knowledge but then in the same sentence do the same.

The details I have seen so far

5 year - 62.5m
10m signing bonus
27m guaranteed

That suggests to me that two years are guaranteed as something like:

Signing bonus 10m
- Year 1 - 4m
- Year 2 - 13m (set to be restructured)
- Year 3 - 11.5m
- Year 4 - 12m
- Year 5 - 12m

That’s before his rash of injuries. I’d prefer not paying 12.5 for a player that won’t be 100% his first year and then is nearing 30 after that.
