I agree with many of the Cap saving moves but are we prepared these cost saving moves are to better benefit us moving forward than necessarily improving our roster this year.

Obviously the talent we had wasn’t enough for more success but by making these sound Cap moves aren’t we reducing our talent even more.

Hopefully these moves will benefit in years to come but not sure why we’d expect them to benefit us this year with less talent on the roster.

I hate rhetorical questions....
as if anyone here knows.

Anybody have the lottery numbers for tomorrow, let me know.

The goal is not to improve this year. The goal is to have Sean Payton on board in 2023 and give him as much cap space and good players to build on.

This year is an off year. We get rid of contracts and rebuild.

They couldn’t stick with the status quo and think things were going to change..

Just about every team goes through this each year. The good ones can stay competitive and the bad ones can’t.

it’s day 2 of free agency? And they freed up space to make moves. It’s not just developing, but it’s also not overpaying! This is a team with cap issues, and they gotta get out from under that first.

Ya know what it’s also not? Winning. Look at the list of players that have left this franchise in the past 7 years and then look at the list of players added. The void of talent is smack you in the face obvious.

But hey, at least the cap future looks bright. Can’t wait to attend that parade.
It’s honestly pretty sad that you believe we’ve had “cap issues” for a decade straight. At what point does common sense kick in that there’s another “issue”?

So far the starters we lost is Cooper, Williams and Gregory . And Wilson would have most likely been our 3rd receiver.

If you think that makes this 2022 roster more talented so be it. My argument is these Cap moves are more for the future moving forward , not shoring up this 2022 roster.
I don’t think anyone actually wanted to keep Williams anyway
He’s a better run blocker than most give him credit for but he just gets too many penalties and many of those penalties come from him being beat
I think replacing him was a given
I think the cap relief actually can help this year
We can’t buy 3 or so top players but we could go get one top player
We could go get miller who played as well as Gregory last year. We could get a guard though drafting guards is reasonably easy
We could get a mlb though maybe not Wagner
I think the Kirk deal really screwed up the WR market but in time it may get back to reality
And this WR class may lack an elite guy but it’s fairly deep
I just hope at 24 we just pick the best player regardless of the position
If it’s a guard, so be it. But a really good LB, DT could fall. Maybe even a good center though I think second round will also bring a couple of solid center prospects
I’m not too concerned with most of what we lost

sure we could go back 7 years, but this coach only been here for 2. Did well in both drafts, addressed defense and even brought in a few players last year. And in only 2 years shown a big difference from the previous regime. The cap issues today are directly related.

What’s sad is some think they could just throw money at a few free agents without “properly” building the rest of the roster and actually win. I see some quality additions in those 2 years and a free agent period that just started.

The only real talent loss is Cooper, but when he and Dak don’t mesh, its no a huge.

You cannot make judgement after the 1st week of free agency. Let's see what they accomplish for the entire offseason process.

It was inevitable that we were going to lose talent this year. So many key performers in contract years, whether guys ending their rookie contracts, or el cheapo free agents who overperformed their contracts.

On the bright side, that means we're getting a lot of comp picks. But not this year. In 2023. We're getting worse this year. If we're going to be better, it will be the coaches getting their act together. And there is plenty of room for improvement.

So we are basically accepting the fact we could take a step back in 2022 season .

IMO the biggest mistake in this offseason was Jerry kneecapping the lameduck coach and that will be the downfall of this team in 2022, BUT, putting that aside and just focusing on team/cap management - although I did not like seeing Amari go, I am good with the other moves and I am actually impressed with their ability to put themselves in a very good cap situation when it looked like they would have none. There are currently only 6 other teams with more cap space than Dallas right now. If they can resign Kearse, and add another DE and find at least one starting lineman in free agency I will be satisfied, heading into the draft. I think releasing or trading LC is a mistake, so we will see if that happens. They are creating a 4th hole in the oline when there's 3 holes now. But if they parlay that cap space into 2 quality free agent Olineman, then it would be worth it. I love the thought of adding a Von, or Bobby, but until they fix this shell of an oline, none of that will matter.

Starters lost and starters it looks like we may lose

Cooper
Collins
Willians
Gregory
Kearse
Neal
Vander Esche
Kazee
Anger
Zeurline
As bad as that list looks....I think your going to be able replace those guys with the same caliber player or better through the draft. The exception being Kearse....we have got to get him resigned. He was such a huge part of what made the defense go last year. But honestly....I'm not worried yet.
