At the and of the day, If Gregory and his agent wanted him to be in Dallas he’d be in Dallas.

conversely, if Cap Boy and Paternity Boy wanted RG to be a Cowboy in 2022, they would have gotten the deal done, contract language be damned.

semantics aside, Agent and player ultimately preferred Denver, and Cowboys wanted the player but only on their terms.

I did notice another thing: Cowboys cap specialist/negotiator Adam. Could it be...former Cowboys forum cap specialist AdamJT13?! Sure, all they share is a first name and a hyper focus and specialization on the cap, but still...

I saw the name and thought the very same thing!

So between all the Twitters and the fake Fish News, It sounds like the true story is getting mixed up. If you haven’t seen this link, this sounds like what truly happened with the Gregory signing.

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...ion-of-decision-to-ditch-cowboys-for-broncos/

Cowboys did try to add something that wasn’t reasonable, not normal, and doesn’t sound like Stephen Jones is much of a negotiator. I would say ‘if the Cowboys even intended on keeping him,’ but if Jerry Jones was having to personally get involved then yes, the Cowboys did want to keep him and blew this. I know a lot of fans did not trust him, but the Broncos honestly signed him for cheap versus what decent pass rushers get on the market.
Wow, understand both sides of this.
Can't blame the player for looking out for his own best interest nor the Cowboys for doing the same.

Per Schaffer, owner and G.M. Jerry Jones got Gregory on the phone to make the pitch. The Cowboys increased their offer to match Denver’s. As Schaffer tells it, the Cowboys told Gregory, “‘We love you, we will support you. This is the best place for you. We know who you are.'”

Gregory then decided not to sign with the Broncos, and to stay with the Cowboys. But next came the actual contract from the Cowboys. Schaffer said he was surprised to find language wiping out all guarantees in the event of any fine imposed by the NFL.

“No other teams have that language in their contracts,” Schaffer told PFT. “No other teams. Never in 30 years have I seen that language.”

If that is true, I do not blame Gregory or his agent at all for running away from that offer.

Players that hit quarterbacks tend to get fined before you even think about the more serious things for which the NFL may fine a player.

What low offer?

I was expecting guaranteed money demands to be in the $30-$40 million range which given Randy’s history is why I wasn’t going to bemoan this much if it didn’t work out. But after seeing what he signed for it does make me wish we had tried a little harder. As others have said though, sounds like both parties were reluctant from the get go.

Exactly, why would Gregory's agent lie about it?

His agent says he has been in the business for 30 yrs and has never seen this clause in any other contract he has ever done.

An agent making up a lie would seem to hurt his chances to get future clients, so why would an agent lie about something like this?

So a guy who has been suspended and fined several times by the league for his behavior and an organization that has stood by him and helped him through it is upset because in his contract the organization put safeguards in just in case he returns back to those negative behaviors is upset because of it. Gregory needs to grow up and his agent is obvious out touch with reality. This guy has a past of negative behavior that could jeopardize his availability to be on the field and the Cowboys are protecting themselves from it. I applaud Gregory for getting through some of his demons and hope he continues on path of becoming a productive citizen but for him and his agent not to know that this would be put into the contract makes me wonder if they are naive or just plain dumb. The agent says he has never seen this in a player’s contract but times are different now and sometimes the organization has to protect itself from players who exhibit such behaviors that could get them fine or suspended.

Maybe Stephen didn't want him but Jerry did. Doesn't matter. The cowboys aren't losing much by not overpaying randy for a few years. And no it has nothing to do with weed.

And ask yourself why would Dallas want to include that in a contract? I call BS. It doesn’t make sense for the team to make a pass rusher worry about every hit that “may” cause a fine.

I hear you on agents and lawyers, but I don’t think he’s lying. He’s a 30 year agent. It’s very unusual for an agent to release a story like this. I just think the Cowboys got caught lowballing Gregory.

The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle, but hope we get to see the actual language one day.

I can believe it is in the contract, and has been in other contracts but they have yet to enforce it.

Hypothetical situation: Zeke pulls a Deshaun Watson. No legal charges, league agrees that sitting out last year is punishment enough but fines him 500k. Dallas somehow finds thess actions unacceptable (stop laughing) and decides they want to void the contract/quarantees. There is their out. That is why it is there and that is why it has never been enforced.

Unless the contract gets leaked then no one will ever know the answer as both sides will add some exaggeration to make their side not the "bad" side.

What's done is done. Cowboys wanted that clause, Randy didn't. The end.

Now, I'm curious if he left out a few words in regards to wiping of all guarantees. Aka not an automatic wipe from a 5k jersey fine but maybe the team could void guarantees if he got fined 200k for bribing a drug tester.
Cause, you can't tell me that wouldn't be Front Office suicide if they wiped RG's guarantees over an accidental helmet to helmet fine.
No team would ever risk pulling that and expect to even re-sign their own. The NFLPA would go nuts.
