Stephen’s master plan:

1. Go to the highest paid players on the team and ask them to take pay cuts. When asked why they should, sell them on how much better them team around them will be when that money gets some top free agents to sign with the team. Star players then agree to do so.

2. Sign no one and literally laugh all the way to the bank to deposit the savings into your back account.

Ya, so you know, that is not how it works. All teams must spend 95% of the cap on player salaries.

We traded Cooper and signed Gallup. We extended Lawrence and tried to sign Gregory. That was the plan. There was never a plan to use the money on expensive free agents from other teams.

Yep. The money they saved with Gregory leaving will go toward cheap FAs and then extending their own to meet that limit. Just don't expect it to go toward high-dollar signings from other teams.

Except that’s not even close to accurate. The Cowboys will spend almost every dime of their cap money, not depositing ‘savings’ in the bank.

You seem to lack a basic understanding of how the salary call cap works as it relates to the Cowboys.

You do realize that Gregory and his agent knew that clause was going to be in that contract right? It was in his last contract and every contract that Cowboys players sign. It is even in the union contract with the players voted on it and approved it. Even if it is not in their contracts it can be enforced. Has never happened but it can and nothing can be done about it by the players Ps I am an ex union rep and have read it the players screwed themselves

Cap dollars go back into the cap. It's called rollover. You can roll cap dollars from one year to the next. If that money isn't spent in three years, it goes to the NFL. The NFL divides that money it has confiscated among all 32 teams evenly.

So Jerry cannot spend unused cap dollars on himself. And the owners make about 168 million a year off of NFL revenue. So why would they need to steal cap dollars?
