So many great comments in this thread. But more and more about what happened is leaking out and it looks to me like Gregory made a deal with Dallas then backed out to go to Denver. That's fine. He has that right. But the lying about the contract to make Jerry look bad is inexcusable, even if Jerry did not support Gregory all those years when RG was suspended and in constant trouble. What we now know is the story about the clause inserted at the last minute was a lie. The language he supposedly objected to was always in the contract. Furthermore, his agent had done deals with Dallas on other players and the language was in those contracts too. So his claim he had never seen that before was a complete lie as well. Its one thing to go to Denver where pot is legal, and you'd would have to try hard to convince me that is not the reason Gregory went to Denver, but to smear his old team that stood behind him for 6 years is really uncalled for.
He made a deal with Denver first. Jerry called the following day and sold him to come back to Dallas.

IMO, he never wanted to come back and only agreed as he spoke with Jerry. But this is what teams should expect, when you let YOUR players negotiate with other teams THAN return to Dallas and expect them to want to stay.

i think he just wanted to go to denver for a better shot at winning a super bowl and legal weed and is trying to give justification for looking ungrateful for what the cowboys did for him by coming up with this perceived slight.

BTW legal weed is popping up all over the place. It’s not just in Colorado anymore! He could’ve did his research and came to Jersey to do pay for the Jets or Giants!

Far be it for me to defend the Jones, and yes, I am guessing the contract could have been handled better, but Gregory should shut his mouth about criticizing Jerry, even indirectly.

Few teams would have stuck by him and kept him around for as long as we did. One can argue that if not for Jerry, Gregory might have found himself out of the league at some point, not about to collect $70 million potentially.

You know, even before the season started I said this is what people would say about Gregory if he left for another team. That he should be grateful, etc. but the truth is we held on to him because he had potential, he was cheap, and we owned his rights. With a former 1st Round grade, he'd have had multiple takers if we did release him early. Aldon Smith getting a shot here (plus beyond here) is proof positive. Josh Gordon? Hello. I understand the need to embellish us holding on to him as some great charity to hold over his head but it's not as if he wouldn't have gotten a shot elsewhere or that it would have been better for him if he did.

I'm still not sure about this. If I was a player, I would never sign a contract that says you can void my guarantee for a simple fine. That is asinine.

I can understand the suspension because the team loses the player, but a fine? There is no damages to the team.

I seriously doubt this is in all Dallas contracts.

Bro, if you actially read, it was the thread starter that left out a word, not Gregory. And by the way, your post should read, "AN indirect shot ..."

Randy Gregory First Comments: Spurning Cowboys to Sign With Broncos About Trust
"This is a week I'll never forget,'' Gregory wrote on IG while at dinner at Elway's Steakhouse. "(I) appreciate the Broncos organization for believing in me.''

Let's move on, one thing I will add is that he already agreed to a contract with Denver, then Jerry convinced him to resign and match his contract. He was already willing to take the money and run, any goodwill by the Cowboys was thrown in the trash by him. It's not like they were signing him to a hometown discount, either.

You're wishing bad on a person who didn't do what you wanted him to do with HIS OWN business dealings and call out for karma like a lover spurned at the altar and he's the immature one? Are you planning on getting to work on your "revenge body" now? Lol.

You want a shot at a Super Bowl?

How about don't get multiple penalties in crunch time in the playoffs.

Their team is better. But the gauntlet they have to go through is unlikely.

Yes, the Jones family helped him work through years if issues. In return, Gregory thanked them, got himself together and played problem free last year. Now, the Jones family, as well as, a good portion of the fan base; believes that Gregory is beholden to this organization for the rest of his life. This is not about morality, but guilt and oppression.

To Randy, congratulations on making it out.
