Cooper's cap hit is just under 5M now. But more money is being pushed into remaining and dead years.

Won't matter, the salary cap is going to explode after the new Amazon TV deal. They say maybe an extra $100+ million. Best year to restructure and kick $$ down the road.

It’s what Dallas keeps doing with Dak and and other high $ players

Yeah I know. And they have to keep doing it with Dak. Then give him another extension. Otherwise the cap hit would be out of hand.

Ideally, yes. But I don't think 100M. Add to that I think the league is still owed cap money from 2020. They didn't take it back all at once.

They've restructured everyone. They clearly didnt' want Amari here.

Exactly............We are going to have over $30 mill in cap space on June 1st, barring a major singing but we all know that aint happening, and Cooper's cap hit this year is $5 million. We could have easily afforded that.

Yeah, they probably got pissed he never got vaccinated for Covid and ended up missing a couple of games over it. Jerry even went on the radio and cried about it.

So shipping him to Clevland for a bag of Doritos was their way of "punishing" him..........................it was never about the cap.

I'm convinced it was the missed games due to covid, non-vax, and attending public events unmasked that did Cooper in more than his lack of production for various reasons. Same for Collins, the suspension and ducking the drug tests were held against him as well. Cowboys can move everyone else's money around but Amari's.

You could be right, I just thought this was going to happen the second they drafted Lamb. I figured they'd move on from Cooper and go with the younger two, Lamb/Gallup. They could have restructured him. But Lamb comes up for an extension next year.

A lot of Cowboys fans are going to have one eye on Amari/Watson next year.
You and @WillieBeamen was out of pocket on Amari from the jump. Now yall got what you asked for. I still don't get how he doesn't get targeted and that=him disappearing. Atleast let me see a bunch of drops and alligator arms which I didn't see.

I stil can't believe we let Cooper go so easily. This offseason has been absolutely a disaster. Most incompetent FO in the league.

It doesn't help that this is not a banner F/A year, it maybe even below average of a typical year, that's why making the right decisions in the draft will make or break us

Managing the cap is not about 'creating room' in the current year.

Would you buy a Ferrari if the dealership offered to let you wait a year to start making payments.
- The projected payment would be more than your current salary.
- The dealership is owned by the Mob (i.e. No chance to avoid paying them back).

You already made a deal with the dealership for you Porsche (Dak) and your BMW that already has some miles on it (Zach). So you had no problems dealing with the mob for those cars, but now you dont want to do it for your Ferrari?

I find that hard to believe, I think it is another reason you dont want the Ferrari, like maybe the Ferrari would not get a fuel injector cleaner when the other cars would. I am pretty sure you know what I am referring to.

Correct that’s why you shouldn’t pay elite money for good. That’s why DL is still here also. Other teams make mistakes too but Jerry is the best in the nfl at these kind of mistake, Jerry says this is a Championship team, gets old after 26 years of bumbling

They converted his $20 mill base salary for 2022 into signing bonus and added 2 void years to the 3 yrs remaining, thus allowing them to spread the $20 mill signing bonus over 5 yrs.

The net effect to all of this is that Cooper's 2022 cap hit is now only $5 million. Cowboys could have done the same but nope.

And we are going to be sitting here on June 1st with over $30 million in cap space, LMAO

It's probably what they would have done if Gallup had left. It was either/or and really didn't have much to do with needing to create money. As this and Gallup's contract show, we could have had both players this year for a little over $10 million. So both receivers with a cap savings this year. And we still could have made all the re-signings and signings we've done this offseason.
