I guess we couldn't sign any FA's when Dak was making $500k/yr.? At some point yall will realize how lazy it is blaming Dak all the time.

Romo's contract was still in the books for a couple years after Dak took over.

A Smart man would take the "team discount" route instead of the "get all you can get" approach if your real goal is to have a successful career in a TEAM sport that has a salary cap..

I will go to my grave saying that guys that MAX out their contracts don't care about winning.

Exactly. What did we do with the 'savings' from trading away Cooper and cutti9ng La'el Collins? That so called 40 million contract is an excuse. Stafford is getting paid 40 million a year isn't he, and yet the Rams are super stacked. What did we even do when Dak was under a million a year? Oh yea, that's right, same thing we are doing now, which is sign bargain bin players.

I agree that a smart man would take a team discount if he thought the team was capable of producing a dynasty of success. If he thought management was capable of it. If he didn't believe in that then I understand him wanting to get paid at least for one contract cycle before moving on to ta team that was about success.

This is on Jerry, not Dak.

All of that us understood, so how can Dak be blamed for organizational failures?
When Dak holds the ball too long and won't throw it or doesn't know where to go with the ball like he did in the 49ers game it is his fault. We've seen that as a common theme with him over the years. It's time to get some pedigree in here because that's the only chance this team has to win. Great QBs usually show it in the first few years. Dak has only shown he is a front runner.

Strange how they got rid of Cooper and Collins who are both much needed by Dak.
No more doubles on Cooper and Collins is his best bud on the offline.
Is this a pattern or indication that even Jerry and Son have snapped out of it and realize Dak is not the one?
Wonder where Jimmy G or Mayfield are going to end up?

Think about all that we’ve given up for this teams buy in with him

-cap hell for the next decade

-losing out on good players and free agents

-he’s about to get his second coach fired next year

-the 2016 decision to go with him over Romo leading to a first round exit

-squandering the best cowboys team in 20 years with another first round exit due to poor qb play

-cutting or trading players who don’t get along with Dak or we just can’t simply afford them anymore

Think about the following qb option we had the last 2 years

1. Tom Brady
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Russell Wilson
4. Dashaun Watson
5. Matt Stafford

And Dak makes more money than all of them. I know this isn’t all predicated on Dak but it’s kind of hard not to feel that we’ve been cheated out of something since we signed him to this ridiculous deal
Have you read yet that all the QB’s on 2nd contracts are making 40M plus per year?
Romo would not be playing anymore.
Due to poor QB play is a part of 21 season’s failure.
Cap is an issue for all teams I wish JJ went more aggressive also
Tom Brady picked TBay I saw nothing in the news that Dallas was a choice.

You love being wrong.Brady will throw short to set up deeper play action routes and then throw accurately for long completion.Key being accurate, something Dak isn’t.
You need to start watching more football and stay out of the bar

This thread should be locked in place at the top because it impacts every other thread below it with losing good players and signing trash

I Agree...Stafford didn't have an Elite defense (anchored by the BEST NFL player) or many other pieces to Complement Stafford. Because for 12 years Stafford proved better option wise and cost wise for Detroit..

Stafford in Dallas wouldn't have mattered, just like Romo in Dallas didn't amount to much. Just like Dak in Dallas won't do crap. Jerry insists on building through the draft. He didn't pay Dak to win a championship. He paid him to keep the team good enough to stay popular.

Stafford would have been a better option , play wise and cost wise . But Jerry does not have that type of forward thinking . He wanted the Dak experiment to continue and try to win a super bowl with Dak . No analyst sees. Dak as a super bowl QB unless we have an elite defense and many other pieces to complement Dak .

Wouldn't make a difference. Romo was every bit as good as Stafford or better. Jerry insists on building through the draft exclusively. Cowboys would need a QB like Rodgers, Peyton Manning, or Brady to make up for the lack of impact players.

Stafford played clutch last drive...so happy for him...being stuck in detroit if no shot.....love how he threw perfect pass that set u FG to win.....real hapy for Stafford

Me too. He was the reason I was rooting for the Rams to win. Otherwise I love the underdog story the Bengals were. But Stafford, what he went through with his wife, not to mention people mocking him because of being on Detroit. The guy had an up and down year. Mostly upside. He even had an up and down SB, but came through at the end. I can't remember the last time I was happy for a player.

They would not have been throwing away 2-3 years by moving on from Dak. They would have been protecting the team’s future from having the roster limited because of a huge contract. Things would have been better if the contract matched the Dak’s level of play, but it’s not even close. Despite the few posters on this board that repeatedly say that the cap doesn’t matter and the team can manipulate the cap to sign whoever they want, we repeatedly see Dallas in a position where they can’t afford to even sign mid-level free agents. 2-3 years spent looking for a good QB would be much better than several years of massively overpaying a QB and a roster that is limited because of that contract.
they can't afford? prior to FA people on this very board were predicting doom becuase we were 25M over the cap. now we have 7th most highest cap space. we don't sign anyone because of stupidity. we trade cooper (more like give him away) where we could have opened 15M in cap space and still have him and not create a need. we could have signed Gregory and we wanted to really bad, and we try to be slick willy and slip language in contract an hour before signing.

no, 19M cap hit is not why we can't sign anyone. its FO stupidity.

I remember when the leak came out about Dak wanting $40 million a year and Dak and his agent denied it. They denied leaking that info because it was perceived as being very greedy. Once they realized that Jerry and Stephen was not outraged by the $40 million, they started mentioning that number frequently. It didn’t matter if his contract was a roster killer as long as he got his.
you have a vivid imagination.

You still do not get it, They payed Zeke because it was the run that carried the team, bad move on Jerry's part but everyone knew the team went as Zeke ran. Coop got paid because Jerry saw Dak couldn't elevate receivers in 2017 and the start of 2018 then paid him big to retain him because everyone knew what would happen to Dak with out him. So yes that's real reality not some homers distorted view of Dak is the savior.
so the logic here is quite...amusing....so Jones knowing Dak couldn't do things as a QB gave hima 40M contract, knowing he has to pay so many others to keep him good.

do you even read your own posts or it just comes out like that?

valid points. I still believe Jerry should have gone for Stafford in 2019 when dak's agent refused the 28 million offer , which was absolutely a fair offer for Dak. Other options were also available . but jerry caved to the pressure and gambled away another 6 years , on a decent average QB at best. A 42 mil QB should be much much better than what dak is. Dak is probably ranked 14-16 at this stage. That doesn't translate to elite or to 42 mil.
what pressure? pressure from who? fans? like you?
