The pluses have been pretty well mentioned, the shedding of contracts and underperformed players.
The unfortunate balance of that is are they hoping they have people in house to cover those losses ?
Are they sold on Steele or Ball at Tackle, does the other become the swing ?
I'm hopeful both Fowler and Washington will be productive parts of their respective rotations. All else is bring back our own players - so status quo. I expect to see draft picks at both positions - but not necessarily high round picks.

My minuses - it's not enough.
All of it, it's not enough.
We are in an arms race that we are about to lose come draft time. While we were the better team in the worst devision last year, we are weaker now.
And our direct competition is about to get much much better ! ( well, maybe not Washington).
But the other two teams are about to blitz us come draft time, not only by the 5 first round picks combined. But the fact in each subsequent round, they are far better positioned to grab significantly better players than our 24th position.
We needed to be bettering our team now, in FA. And we haven't.
If we look out over the next 2-3 years with each teams rosters, I expect both the Giants and Eagles to catch and pass us. Maybe not this year- as all their (should be talented) draft picks must learn to play. But by year two of their big hauls, their rosters will be stronger than ours. By the end of this year's draft, I expect we will have filled 2 holes - which ever they may be, and not much else. We are treading water, they are about to get much better.
So much for Jerry's talk of doing anything to win ...

The pluses for me are:
  1. We’ve drafted up to 10 starting caliber players in the last two drafts, and some are exceptional. Parsons, Diggs, Lamb, Odigi, and Steele are probably 10-25m APY players and then we’ve got a handful of decent guys like Gallimore, Biadasz, Joseph, Golston and Cox that are fringe starters or guys that could develop to starters.
  2. I actually like what we’ve done at edge. I think Lawrence/Golston on the left and Armstrong/Fowler on the right is solid as long as we have Parsons up the middle and decent DT play.
  3. The continuity in the secondary is also a positive. It’s the same as last year minus Kazee but plus some development from the likes of Diggs, Joseph, Wright, and Mukuamu…it should be better.

The minuses:
  1. The cap we’ve left on the table…why? With all those draft picks we’ve hit on we should be loading up for the next season or two before we have to pay them.
  2. The inability to address issues on offense. We’re down a no.1 WR, no.2 TE, starting guard, and our swing tackle is starting on the right. We brought in a vet-min receiver…it’s nowhere near enough.

Pluses...

1)We're about to draft two offensive linemen.

2) We have 10 million to sign some more vets come June 1st.

3) Gregory's production is easily replaceable.

4) Cooper's replacement is already on the team.

5) Simi Fehoko is in his second year.

6) Zeke will be a goner after this season.

Minuses...

1) Jerry's still running things.

2) Kellen Moore is still here.

3) Question marks at FS and DT still hunt this team.

4) They brought LVE back.

While I understand the tendencies of many to feel down about the offseason thus far, I can see some positives amidst the rubble. I don't think the offseason and free agency have been a total disaster, and I wanted to point out what I feel have been good moves and some that still have me scratching my head and get some opinions on what others think?

Here are my negatives:
  1. Trading away Cooper for a bag of magic beans. No sugar-coating it. The Cowboys gave away their best receiver for peanuts, especially when seeing what receivers like Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams fetched in their trades.
  2. Announcing to the world that you were 'done' with La'el Collins and ultimately cutting him. I know about the cap savings situation, and I also know that the Cowboys themselves created that cap situation too. They released one of the best right tackles in the league and got nothing for him.
  3. Franchise tagging Dalton Schultz. Sorry, but in no universe is Schultz a franchise player worthy of an $11 million cap hit this year. And he's not worth any big money multi-year contract going forward either. Teams like Buffalo are loading up for a championship run and getting guys like OJ Howard to be their #2 TE for a third of what the Cowboys are paying Schultz.
  4. Doing nothing thus far to improve a weakened offensive line. They were right to let Williams go, but they should be doing more to potentially upgrade at left guard and possibly center. There are some good options available, stop sitting on your hands!
Here are my positives:
  1. Swapping out Randy Gregory at $70 million for Dante Fowler for $3 million. Some try to criticize the Cowboys for 'screwing up' the Gregory deal but I think they did the right thing and not making that deal will ultimately turn out to be a blessing. Fowler is a better player on every level, and certainly less of a suspension risk.
  2. The James Washington deal. The team deserves credit for adding a good young receiver to their trio at a bargain price. He wanted to play close to home and the Cowboys wisely signed him. The guy was a former second round draft pick and highly regarded. For some reason, he got lost in the shuffle in Pittsburgh and hopefully that's not the case here.
  3. Retaining several defensive players at modest prices. The team was able to keep a good portion of its defense intact with several modest contracts. This is NOT saying that the defense is 'finished' or that it cannot be improved before anyone gets the wrong idea. But continuity is important, especially for a unit in its' first year together in a new system. And the team kept most of what they had, while leaving themselves the option to continue to add and improve in the draft.
  4. The new contract for Demarcus Lawrence. I see this as a win-win for player and team. And as someone who wanted Lawrence and his bloated contract gone, I've done a complete reversal after seeing both parties get a deal like this done.
I'd like to hear what others think? Are there some that you disagree with? Are there some positives or negatives that I've missed?
Positives:

- The put themselves in a very good cap situation the next couple years.

- The players they lost weren't critical last year. Cooper had a down year, the defense played well without Gregory, and Collins has missed much of the last two seasons.

Negatives:

-They completely bothched Cooper and Collins. In both instances they should have been able to get picks in the top 120. They should have been able to get a top 60 for Cooper. Collins due to his lack of availability the last two years, I could see a 4th. The Cooper situation was utterly mismanaged. The only reason he would have no value is if he drew a line in the sand and said "Im getting my 20 million this year" he clearly didnt.

- They committed to an oft injured WR in Gallup. Its not just his knee, its the 3rd time in 3 years he has gone down due to injury. They are putting too much faith in him

- Way too passive in FA. Especially considering the money the space they get from Cooper/Collins and the fact the cap will balloon next season with the TV deal. Coming off a 12 win season in a weak division, this was the time to be aggressive. NY and Philadelphia will be better next year. We are still the better team, but the gap is closing, and those two may not be 4 free wins

no one wanted to trade for Lael. For obvious reasons.

and Coop’s production didn’t match his base salary. We got 4 years out of him.

gregory is a druggie and Dallas wouldn’t go over their limit for him.

they’ve done a good job cleaning up the cap.

Dallas doesn't have to pay his base salary if he's traded or released. They only have to cover his guarantees and/or his bonuses. After next season Zeke will have 12 million left in bonuses. If he's designated as a June 1st cut, Dallas would have 4 million in dead money in 2023. And 8 million in dead money in 2024.

Cooper's also on the downside of his career but I am still surprised we couldn't get more than a throwaway pick for him.

He retired three years ago.

There's nothing that guy can do this year to not be gone.

11 more months and I won't have to look at that ridiculous head any longer.

Pluses- Signing Kearse, Anger, and Washington. Losing Williams to FA, Quinn coming back, and Parsons with a year of experience.

Minuses- Moore staying, Not being good at trades. Not getting better. Telegraphing your whole draft. Losing Ced. Stephen still being a cheap skate.

It was a surprise.

that means other GMs felt the same way.

he’s not worth 60 mill.
