Elliott is lazy. What toll did Emmitt take? Barry sanders? How come their toll wasn’t as bad?

Something is causing his demise, that much seems evident by his performance woes. Of course, the media hype does nothing to pinpoint that being the case but that's not overly surprising, either. Whether it's laziness or his old inclinations to party seems to be kept under wraps. I've not seen reports indicating he's lazy, assuming that's the case. It's not difficult to suspect that wear and tear has taken a toll on him, either. Whatever the cause may be, it's obvious that his performance has regressed. It happens to many RBs who are used on such a constant basis.

How many fans remember we coached Carson Wentz in the senior bowl? How many also remember we knew Romo's career was coming to end BUT we thought he had another two, maybe three years left ( Romo and Jerry were telling us he could play another four years ). Remember Romo had spent most of 2015 injured after having a career year in 2014, thanks to DeMarco Murray league rushing title.

Bottom line.......their thinking at the time of drafting Zeke was all about whether or not Romo, with a top elite RB ( Murray 2014 ), could finally get us a Super Bowl. What's interesting is it's they knew injuries had taken a toll on Romo BUT thought he could play another 2 years ( remember they were hell-bent on drafting a QB BUT didn't wanna draft Wentz or Goff coz it would mean too much drama/competition for Romo ( icon/legend ).

I understand their thinking for drafting Zeke. The problem IMO was letting Zeke and his agent use a holdout to force an extension TWO years early. But know why that happened? Dial back to DeMarco's final year where we ran him to the ground, he led the league in rushing, BUT instead of cheap Stephen Jones making a market value offer, he low-balled him, with some claim RB starts wearing down after age 27/28. Zeke and his agent remembered that and pretty much said he WOULD NOT Demarco me.

But again, drafting Zeke had ZERO to do with Dak. He had nothing to do with their thinking at the time. BTW drafting Ramsey with Garrett and coaches would have been like trying to mix oil and water IMO. Ramsey is no question a damn good player but he's also an opinionated hot head ( similar to Deion Sanders, maybe a little TO ), NOT Garrett's kind of player. Near the end of his rookie contract with the Jags, he admitted he was going to cost a lot, saying they were going to have to put him on layaway to afford him.

I'm not convinced Ramsey would still be here even if we did draft him.

Ramsey and Henry would have been a magical draft.
And we'd have Henry with a $15M cap hit and Ramsey with a $23M cap hit (assuming Jerry gave them the same contracts they have now) and no QB. Maybe Dak would be the starter in this hypothetical. Or maybe Romo didn't get hurt in 2016 and played another couple of season. Then we'd have a raw Dak as the starter. Or maybe it would be Cooper Rush. Who knows?

In an alternate history we draft Ramsey instead of Zeke and things would be very different.
I call BS on Ramsey. Cowboys said something more like they would consider him at #4.

I am still glad they took Elliot instead. If for anything else, to see the meltdowns. :lmao2:

Also if Ramsey was the pick, all the ones wanting him, would have been whining about the huge contract he would have wanted and if he got it.
You would say Stephen is an idiot to pay that much.

Dak doesn't have Zeke winning the rushing title by over 300 yards and being 1st team all pro and riding that wave to the #1 seed their rookie year.

What happens with Dak if he doesn't have the best RB in the NFL for his first 3 seasons? Romo surely gets his spot back in 2016 and Dak is now the back up? Does he ever get a chance to be the guy? Would he even be in the league right now?

What happens with the defense? Zeke made the Cowboys better in the short term, but Ramsey would have been the better guy long term. Zeke is now washed while Ramsey still plays at a pretty high level.

We would not have those horrible Zeke or Dak contracts right now. We'd have Ramsey on a big contract, but he'd be much better value than both Zeke and Dak.

Looking back, it's clear the Cowboys made the wrong choice.

I think you are spot on with this.

the NFL had been doing pretty well with not overvaluing running back in the draft for several years until Gurly went in the first round the year before Elliot.
Yep and the Giants made a mistake taking Barkley high as well. I think teams have re-learned that lesson.

rb over cb in the top 5

then give the rb a huge contract

as some one who is 100% against taking a rb in the 1st round at all let alone top 5 and ever give a rb a second contract oh boy!

stupid decison add up and that is how u go almost 30 years from a nfc championship game

Dallas also drafted Felix Jones 15 years ago.

Yep I don't think you'll see a RB taken top 10 for a while.

Also won't see a RB guaranteed to not be cut for four years at a 15m AAV....ever again.

As far as Giants fans lamenting Barkley....the alternative would have been Sam Darnold. They are about in the same place either way.

At about :40 Mark on…love of Boys

Zeke made sense as a Romo Window Pick, but then we picked Jaylon, who certainly wasn't.

Strategy by Committee, throwing a bone to every strategy, and ending up incoherent. Much like this offseason.

We "saved cap" by letting top talent go, then we promptly spent that cap on second rate talent.
Cooper, Gregory, Collins
vs.
Gallup, DLaw, Schultz
