The Bengals spent more in FA last year than we did this year. So while they might have not gone FA crazy like the Rams, they spent money in FA last year. For example they signed Hendrickson to a 4 year, $60 million contract. When was the last time the Cowboy signed an outside FA to that kind of contract?

Keep in mind the Bengals came into last offseason with a lousy team that had tons of cap space.

Do I think every move the Cowboys make is golden?

No... I'll dislike the drafting Elliott until he's gone.

But compared to many teams I think the Cowboys do a decent job.

They don't do a decent job in FA. That's for sure. Hard to be good at FA when you basically sign mostly guys that have a small chance of actually helping. For every Kearse, there are ten Nolan Carrolls.

25 years. 3 playoff wins. I guess that's "decent" but shouldn't this franchise aspire for more than "decent" especially given their pretty shoddy run the last quarter century? If you sit out FA like they constantly do, guess what? You get the results the Cowboys have gotten where promising seasons get derailed by clear holes the Cowboys ignored or neglected to fill or thought the draft would solve.

I can play games with my credit card payments too, but eventually I have to pay it.

So will the Rams.

So which is better?

Get crazy in FA, win a SB, contend for a couple more and then have to revamp the roster OR sit out FA, don't put yourself in situation where you may have to take some cap pain for a couple of years and have middling results making and then winning in the playoffs?

And note, I am not even arguing the Cowboys need to go hog wild in FA and basically tear their future cap apart. But they absolutely could and should make a big play here or there for a FA that will fill a hole. They clearly have a need at DE. They were willing to hand Gregory $70 million. There is no reason then to not bring in Za Darius Smith who is actually a better DE than Gregory. He would have solved a problem.

Or go out and spend some money on a LG that fixes the interior OL.

I know which one I would take.

You can take it all you wish.

As for overall team building I think they've done a better job.

Based on what? Your gut feel?

The results certainly don't seem to indicate they are good at building contending rosters. Again, it's hard to argue that over a 25 year period, 3 playoff wins is just bad luck. That's a trend that points directly at the two guys who build these rosters.

It would depend if we'd actually contend. I don't know it sounds silly but I just never been a fan of competing for one year and then going to crap. I know the ultimate goal is to win the ring but I'd prefer to have a legit contender for a few years and I just don't think you can do it with the way the Rams are doing.

That being said though....they have Sean McVey. I trust that guy probably more than any other coach. He just has the ability to get the best out of his players week in and out. So they can afford to take a hit to personnel. This culture in Dallas? Wagner would've just been another veteran who busted because the culture around here rubbed off on him. That doesn't excuse them not bringing guys in though. They know their culture. Their job is to build a solid team regardless of culture.

Oh you're deeply disappointed.

Got it.

As I said, I am not even asking for them to go FA crazy like the Rams have.

But every once in awhile spending real money to fix a clear hole would make sense. Again, they thought DE was a big enough problem to hand Gregory $70 million. He bolts and they come back with Fowler for $3 million. That's just absurd.

You’re a stupid fool if you think they will change. Find a new team to root for.

I am not even sure what this means.

It's basic facts. 25 years. 3 playoff wins.

I am not sure how one can argue that the guys building the teams have done a really good job when you see the end results.

Got it.

Yeah. But they won the ultimate prize. I’d much rather pay the rent when it’s due if it gives us a spot in the venue. Instead of cleaning up the tables after other teams win. I can use analogies as well.

I'm going to remember this when the Rams average a 5-12 season for five consecutive seasons following their failed attempt to repeat.

Their future has been gutted.

They gambled last season and won. Now, they're getting greedy. That's why the house always wins.
