They are planning for today and not the future.

Only time will tell what the future holds. Either way, it’s already worked out better than the Cowboys plan. Even if they spend the next decade in cap hell, they won a Super Bowl.

Meanwhile the Cowboys could very well hit three decades without even appearing in one.

What the Rams are doing is proven to work. They have been to two Super Bowls and won one. They will be in a great position to win it again. The Cowboys haven’t come close to this success in 26 years and counting and there are still a lot of delusional fans that are ok with Jerrah and Stephen’s work.

No no no, the smart thing is to mortgage the present for future potential. Never be aggressive and just hope you luck into a Super Bowl.

Anything to avoid “cap hell!”

They have 8 guys that are taking up over half their cap...that was before the Wagner signing. They had around 9m to play with. Trading away draft picks means they don't have to worry about a rookie pool. About the same amount we have tied up in our top 8. And we have 14m to play with. It's not like our cap guys don't know what they are doing. We went from being 15m over the cap to having a lot to spend and having the ability to get more.

The biggest difference is on several of these deals they got sweetheart cap hits because the team that traded the players to them had to eat the signing bonus money.

Oh, and they have one of the best coaches in the league. Yeah, that helps too!

i’m not sure i would credit the cowboys w/ knowing what they’re doing because they were able to produce cap space by hemorrhaging talent

People forget that this has not been all additions. The Rams cleared cap space
  • OT Whitworth retired---massive savings
  • Lost Von MIller to FA (Bills)---huge cap savings
  • Lost CB Darious Willaims in FA (Jax)----savings
  • Lost DL Joseph-Day in FA (Chargers)---savings
  • Traded Robert Woods---huge cap savings
  • Lost Edge rusher Ogbonnia Okoronkwo to FA (Jax)---savings
  • Restructured Leonard Floyd to save 12 mil in cap
  • Have not resigned OBJ or Sony Michel
  • and more......

How do they manage to pay all of these guys? I meant the Rams

They don’t have the best cap guy ever. Every team could do the same thing. What they have is decision makers who have said forget building through the draft. We will go out and sign and/or trade for high end proven talent and move money around however we need to to make it fit under the cap. Most teams will not part with those high draft picks for multiple years in a row. They did and will probably keep this model going for as long as the have Stafford and can manipulate the cap. They know they are in for a total rebuild down the line and have accepted that. Most teams won’t because the decision makers would fear for their jobs when it comes to an end so they try and be competitive enough the old fashion way to keep their job as long as possible. This model would be perfect in Dallas because no one would fear being fired and the team has all the money in the world. Jerry and Stephen just will no longer part with the picks or give out the contracts it would take.

Yet we spend that money on a franchise tagged TE that is nothing more than a Dak security blanket.
Its the allocations of funds that this FO has issues with.
I like Schultz but I like BW a lot more for the price.
Not me....Parsons and LVE can play MLB depending on the offense. We have absolutely nothing at TE besides Schultz who led the team in TD receptions last year. Besides, Bobby was looking at big money over an extended time that he's unlikely to be playing. Schultz is very likely to be signed to a 3-4 year deal that will make his cap hit manageable.

No they just have a willingness to move on from guys that either want to much money, don't live up to their contract, or whatever and choose to spend draft picks for proven guys instead of gambling in the draft.
