No, he wasn't a workout warrior, but the workout helped override some of his perceived red flags--small school, tweener. Showed he was football player and unreal athlete and high character. It can happen

It did happen. Mafe dominated Senior Bowl practices and in the game. Just like Ware did.

Like this, but as of today, OL a must at 56
1st......
24. DALLAS COWBOYS: EDGE BOYE MAFE, MINNESOTA
Mafe made himself some serious cheddar in the pre-draft process. He had the highest pass-rushing grade of anyone in the week of Senior Bowl practices then put together an outstanding combine performance for a 260-pounder. With Randy Gregory walking, the need is there in a big way

2nd.....
56. DALLAS COWBOYS: DI LOGAN HALL, HOUSTON

3rd....
88. DALLAS COWBOYS: LB CHANNING TINDALL, GEORGIA

I would be ecstatic if this was our top 3 picks

I don’t just use him for reference by many. Many believe he is rising and may replace Ojabo now in rd 1. He is another rush specialist that needs to become a better run defender
Thats most rookie edge guys though regarding run defense. Im just saying it was false to call him a workout warrior. I think too many fans go overboard listening to the experts. Mafe should easily be innplay at 24. Nevermind him having the highest pff grade in the senior bowl.

Stasheroo convinced me with a few articles that he isn't just a workout warrior and had a great offseason. What I am hearing he could be a 1st rd pick. I believe he is in that 2nd tier group, might be close to the top of that list. Would I take him at 24? Probably not, rather take the #1 Guard over the 6th best pass rusher and believe one who is on his level could be there at 56.

Hate it. Mafe was a late 2nd rd pick prior to the combine, now he is a 1st rounder? He is a terrible run defender and is more of a rush specialist. Don't like the other two picks as well.
Tindall in the 3rd looks good; although, they already have Jabril Cox who fits the run-and-hit coverage LB role.
- The need is probably more of the LVE replacement in 2023 which would be guys like Leo Chenal.

I also think the 1st is a bit early for Mafe.
- He reminds me of Donte Fowler.
- His upside is Robert Quinn who also does play the run.

Sam Williams looks similar to Mafe in may aspects.
- Same size, same 10-yard time, similar arm length.

The issue, which I've said before is that positions like OG will always be the safe pick over positions like edge pass rusher.
- i.e. You have to take Edge earlier that you really want to take that player.

Logan Hall looks really good in game footage but the 2nd seems like a round too early.
- He looks like an upgrade to play the roles that they signed Brent Urban to play last year.
- Urban played both Strong Side DE aligned over the OT and DT.

Jeremiah also has mafe in round 1

I am now leaning towards drafting a DE in r 1 after the FA debacle. without effective pass rush in the modern NFL you will killed
but good QBs everytime.

Ask the Bengals how not having a pass rush worked out vs the Rams......Couldn't close the deal to get a ring. Funny thing is....they are blaming their CBs for not covering....

This is going to be a challenging draft for the Cowboys scouts and front office. The Jones boys have to save face after not participating in free agency. The pass rushers, guards, and wide receivers will probably have similar grades. You just pray that whoever you take that in the second and third rounds there will be adequate players to draft at the latter positions.

Let me remind you who was there that Marinelli had them pass on. TJ Watt.
Marinelli notwithstanding, this group can still screw up. They have a better chance of screwing up less at 24 with an OL pick vs. DE.

I would like this draft if the Cowboys had done something in free agency to address the OL. Since they didn't they have got to use the draft to get a LG who can play week 1. The likelihood of getting a 4th round starter is pretty slim unless the really luck out.

I don’t see any basis for that claim.

Because it’s more about the position group. Impact DEs typically are taken much higher. Picking at 24 usually means having a choice of better OL players vs. DE players. Could an impact DE be available? Sure, but the chances are much less than having impact OLs (save for LT maybe) available.
