If you had it to do all over with Romo and Dak in 2016

I wish we would taken the QB position seriously and draft for one in the early rounds. I didn’t like either options.

I get the sick feeling that there will be a QB controversy in Dallas sooner than later. Maybe not this year. But that leg issue Dak has. I just get the feeling it won't be the last time he's going to be dealing with that. Also he isn't getting better as a passer and reading defenses IMO. I'm ready for the Cowboys to bring in some serious competition.

Romo was not going to beat Rodgers with our defense. Let it go. The same problem we had in 2014 with the Dez catch game. We would have never stopped Rodgers.

Interesting proposition. The 2016 Cowboys were the #5 best in points allowed and #1 in rush defense. In regards to Rodgers, the Cowboys were ranked 26th against the pass so it would have been tough

However the Packers pass defense was even worse, ranked 31st so Romo would have carved them up

unfortunately, the refs were ranked #1 overall and I’m sure it would have been the usual results

I think anyone hanging on the fantasy that the Cowboys would have won the SB if Romo played in 2016 are quite delusional.

No doubt, the odds would have been better IF Romo's body was not failing him, but I would have never bet on a SB Run with or without Romo.

Heck, if I had a gun to my head and had to bet, I would bet on the Cowboys still losing against the Packers even if Romo was 100% because Rodgers (even as overrated as I think he is) always seems to find a way to beat Dallas, especially in the playoffs.

I wish Romo would have gotten his last shot, but in the end, I don't think the Dallas Cowboys playoff record would be any different than it is today.

Romo hadfn't did a thing up to that point to give him his job back. Now had he was on a Superbowl team....that might be different.

Has there been some additional injury that he’s not recovered from?

FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott says he feels fine. "I'm fully healthy, 100% healthy," he said. "Thank you, though." And he doesn't believe he is in a slump, which even owner and general manager Jerry Jones indicated on Tuesday speaking on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.Dec 16, 2021

Going back to 2016.

Even though Romo probably would have crumbled on the next sack he took, a part of me will always wonder what would have happened if Romo had been given a chance to gain his starting job back during the second half of the 2016 season.

Not saying that there was a chance in hell of that ever happening, but I do believe that if Romo had gotten the opportunity and if he could somehow have stayed healthy for the rest of the season, I do somehow believe he would have taken the Cowboys to the SB.

Something about that one series drive he had against the Eagles that made it look too easy. He looked like he was playing golf.

Knowing now that Dak was going to become just an above average QB, any regrets for not giving Romo one last shot?
Romo should have been given the starting job back, for two reasons.

A. It is an unwritten rule in the NFL that you dont lose your job to injury, especially to a rookie, you at least get an open competition out of respect even if the team has no intention of giving you your job back.

B. No rookie QB has ever won a SB, thinking Dak was going to take this team all the way as a rookie was the most dumb azz thinking by this organization.

On a side note, its kinda ironic that Dak's best season was his rookie year and he has gone down ever since.

It did not matter because Romo was a hit away from IR every play in every game.

Romo was a much better quarterback than he will ever get credit for being, but at that point his body was just no longer reliable enough to count on him for a full season.

Then why not give Romo his starting job back then? Next play he gets laid out next game you go back to Dak.

Romo was asking for his starting job back, what would it have hurt to let him have it back and if he gets hurt you go back to Dak, Romo then retires, and there are no lingering questions hanging around forever and Dak is probably more well received by the fan base.

Make no mistake, a lot of the Dak hate has to do with the fact that he basically took Romo's job without actually competing for it, the job was just given to him over Romo. A lot of Cowboy fans will always hate Dak for that reason alone.

Exactly............this is year 7 for Dak, QBs in the NFL dont get significantly better after 7 years.

You are what you are by year 7, maybe you make some small tweaks to your game here and there, but a QB is pretty much plateaued by year 7.

In fact, I cant think of a single QB that was just ok his first 7 years and then became a HOF QB after that. Can anybody else?

He retired because they didn't give him his starting position back .
Really?! You Romo lovers….. If somebody wanted him he could have played somewhere else similar to Alex Smith and Jimmy G. Let it go guys, he was done.

Honestly , I wanted Romo stay on as backup qb/qb coach/ offensive coordinator. I know it's a lot to ask but I would've tried to get him into a coaching position mainly kellens. At this point he'd be the offensive coordinator looking at the head coach position.

No thanks, I’d watched Romo lose and lose and choke and choke more than enough. He played with Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn, Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, and Jason Witten. He played with Marion Barber, Julius Jones, DeMarco Murray. Yet he won nothing.

Was he a more talented passer than Dak? Yes! But I find it much more fulfilling to watch a lesser QB who is a better leader, who works all the time to be better than watching the more talented QB fail to maximize his talent and never win anything. I loved Romo for years, but that turned to disgust over time. No way I’d want to see Tony instead of Dak in that Divisional game vs GB where Dak brought us back and had all the momentum before the defense lost the game with only 34 seconds.

It would’ve made no difference. Dak wasn’t the reason the Cowboys lost to Green Bay.

In fact , Romo should have been asked to start the last game ( instead of last possession) and see if he can survive at least one half of the game and if he played well enough to lead them to victory , should have been given the play off game , I believe the inexperience and slow start ( which has become Dak trade mark now ) is what caused us to lose that playoff game, even though dak came back and we got the game tied , we left enough time for GB - AR miracle to happen .

If Romo had anything left or even the will to get back on the field, he would have kept playing instead of retiring. If he was as great as you guys pretend he was, he would have easily found another job leading a SB contender. The fact is he was done, and he didn’t have the will to keep playing. GB would have buried him again.

Romo was 100% healthy and cleared to play.
Romo was the superior QB and gave us our best chance to win.
I would only worry about a broken down Romo if he was actually re-injured. There was no reason he shouldn't have gotten his starting job back.
yep, I will always think if they let him play the last 2 games as test run, he would have beat GB.
Now if he goes to SB I dont know, that would be thru seattle which was doable.
But then dont they play the pats in SB? Dont see dallas winning that.

You replaced average with average. That would be be like keeping Jerry and replacing him with Stephen. Either way we are screwed.
