Yep, a team needs to play with a sense of desperation.Yeah, it's about mental toughness and being willing to work ur butt off in difficult situations. Last year I thought we created an atmosphere where the team was over confident and thought they were better than they were. I think McCarthy believes in 'playing with confidence' and they/he over-indexed on building them up.
Emmitt with the insight. I guess thats what made him a great commentator. For majority of my life an ex-player has used the “talented, but mentally weak” argument after a Cowboys season. When is it going to stop?
Let me know when an ex-player actually calls out the real issue. Emmitt and Irvin can if they want to. Irvin certainly has the mic to do so. The “issue” has already let them be in the Ring of Honor. They no longer have a contract with the “issues” team. Call him out. The fact that they aren’t calling him out is part of the problem.
It feels like the front office also settles when it comes to positional coaches. But that's an assumption. I know I'd try a couple more new ones in areas we failed miserably. Some don’t get tired of talking about the wealth of talent here? I love Emmitt, but I think he’s just being polite with this. It’s multiple things. The team is lacking not only mental toughness, but also talent in key areas and a quality front office capable of evaluating and then fixing those areas.
Why do cowboys players magically stop becoming weak with the execution when they leave here and go to other organizations and win superbowls? If you hear what some of these former players have to say, it's obvious the culture here isn't serious about winning
Emmitt Smith didn't collect the talent that won him 3 SB trophies and he's no more qualified now to say what the content of this team's roster should be. I love Emmitt but he needs to shutup about this roster.
So let me get this right, the purpose of this board is to allow fans to express their opinions about everything Cowboys but you object when I, a well-established Cowboys fan engages in that CZ mission, all the while you justify your objection by questioning the very nature of this boards existence? Are you qualified? If I’m reading this right, you suggesting that the only people qualified to critique the roster are the people who collected the talent? So Jerry, Stephen, McClay etc… what’s point of this board?
agree, no fear of being cut, sat on the bench ...Emmitt is not wrong. We're mentally weak. He said something there that stuck with me. He said you can't take things for granted. Not to beat a dead horse but the culture of the Cowboys now is they take everything for granted. There's no fear of losing. So in line with what Irvin said they don't have the will to become champions because they take things for granted.
Lather, rinse, repeat for 26 seasons.

Because that's how a Cowboys sports forum works. It's the fan's chance to express their opinion. Plus, I am JoeKing, get to know me Damnit! Why is Emmitt Smith not worthy to criticize the Cowboys roster? But some guy in west Texas is? What makes you worthy?

A lot of fans want Quinn to be the HC in Dallas, but I didn’t see anything impressive coming from his HC time in Atlanta. He is similar to Wade Phillips, very good DC, but not so good as a HC.Even though I liked the MM hire, I was disappointed in him with his team management. Quinn brought some mental toughness to the defense.....Moore isn't ready to do that. I hope Quinn doesn't get chummy with the players in order to get the Head Coach job next year. MM needs to step up or he may be out at mid season
He didn’t immediately take Miami to a Super Bowl, but his time there was far from being a failure. Jimmy would do well coaching with a salary cap or any other changes in the game. If the Patriots win multiple Super Bowls, a team run and coached by Jimmy can do the same.Jimmy had a young roster with no guaranteed contracts or salary cap.....he did a great job, but wouldn't be able to do that today. Probably why he retired. Got frustrated in Miami.

Great post , hits several points I have mentioned past couple of years. You do realize where this "entitlement" attitude comes from, right? When the owner and his son pass themselves off as football savants...that is where the fraudulent environment begins. And the funny thing is how often they repeat the same mistakes. They hired a head coach and TOLD him who the offensive coordinator would be and who would call plays. (haven't we seen them do that before?) The the head coach gets mad and hires his buddy to be the defensive coordinator. So you had a head coach who has been out of football. You have a defensive coordinator who has been out of football. And you have an offensive coordinator that they think is Sean McVey, but is really just a guy that is learning on the job.... at the NFL level (you can't make this stuff up).
They field a team that is head and shoulders better than their opponents in the NFC East....and the Jones boys use how easily we dominate the NFC East as an assessment of where this football program is. I am sure that made the Jones boys feel good about themselves and thus the players felt good about themselves. Then the 49ers show us what a real football coach and a real football team look like and the Jones boys have another offseason where they look like discovered a football franchise on a treasure hunt and have no clue what to do (what else is new)
And don't get me started with them putting the #88 on WRs, or the #94 on DEs....don't overlook the part that plays into the culture. I mean...Randy Gregory.....a 2nd round pick that hardly ever saw the field early in his career...what message did him donning #94 send him and the locker room?
Yep we are about entertainment down here.Chido's comment from Cincy tells you all you need to know "Up here, we're all about football"
Must be nice.
