If youre looking for a glimmer of hope the best I can do is tell you Jerry is 23 minutes older than when you started this thread

now that’s real hope
Oh yeah. Hopefully 3-4 more bourbons wrecking his kidney and liver too.

Curious if he showed the staff anything this previous year. Obviously not in pads due to IR but ways he trained/worked out/effort/maturity and so forth. Doesn't make a good player but at least could show how much he cares.

I see him as a developmental guy with upside. I think the team will add a swing vet as we get closer, but curious on how much upside he has. Is he a RT only or could he possibly be a LT in the NFL?

Seemed like we heard nothing on him at all. I don't listen to the podcasts but I don't recall any thread on him at all during the season in terms of updates.

Ok I am looking for glimmers of hope. How about Josh Ball? Slipped to the 4th round because of some off field incidents. Guy would have been drafted much higher. Red shirt mostly last year and he seemed to behave himself. His off field stuff was pretty bad so thankfully he seems to have matured. Maybe he’s in the process of maturing. My working theory is that they let Collins go because they are high on Ball not Steele. To me Steele is at best a swing tackle. I don’t see him as a 17 game starter but more as a quality backup. Maybe I am wrong. Ball has a much higher ceiling. Hence I believe G is going to be one of the top 2 picks.

Anyone have a feeling or inside scoop on Ball? Am I wrong?

Missed the entire rookie season. He is behind the 8 ball big time. NO pun intended.

But no I think they believe Steele is as good as Collins with more upside and plenty cheaper.

Anyone's guess at this point. Perhaps he can contribute and get some minutes and eventually man a position. Perhaps he flames out and is a wasted pick.

Hoping we get a good dose of him in the preseason as our OL future is precarious at best.

It's not anybody's guess. Stephen told you they released Collins because of Steele and they are dumb enough to tell you the truth.

Terence Steele is your starting RT. Josh Ball will compete for the swing tackle job.

Injury was a big step back for him and us. But I am still a little upset we let Collins go. He is better than what he showed some of this year. That being said since they let him go after the sad showing the line had last year so they must have a plan because they know Dak needs protection and we need quality players. Ball will end up taking a job from someone if he don’t start. I do think they planned on scoring O-Line in this draft anyways but also need a DT. Looks like line picks in the first 3 rounds.

I have no clue about Josh Ball, but one thing does bother me.

This young man was entering into one of the premier sports leagues in the world, and it has been written on several media stories that he was unwilling to speak about the incident at FSU.

I'm not sure what he is legally bound to do, but there should have been some manner that he and his agent would allow Josh to address his past, and show some level of professionalism and maturity.

Sure his physical talent is a draw for us fans who clamour for players who can succeed on the field, but I also like to see players within the Cowboys fold exhibit maturity and integrity.

I think they like what they’ve seen from Steele so far. So far he’s following the Doug Free trajectory. Really bad, better, maybe serviceable and cheep. The key will be how long he keeps improving and at what level he stalls out. I’m hoping Ball is good enough to provide competition or at least serve as the swing tackle. Despite A bad year on and off the field for Collins, I don’t think they would have dumped him unless they like Steele.

I'm not convinced that some character concerns and past off field issues may have contributed more to team's decision to move on without Collins, played into combined with what
potential they perceive Steele to offer.

Confrontational? I said you were off here. IMO. You are usually spot on and I agree with you but not here. How is that confrontational?
Semantics I suppose. All good.

Anyway, I'm all for giving Ball a shot as the swing.

His talent level suggests him to be an eventual starter. Depends what the staff has seen from him in practice which we cannot see.

The Cowboys have to be desperate enough that they will give Ball a chance. It's not like he is trying to replace Rayfield Wright, LAllen, EWilliams or even TSmith in his prime. Collins was a basket case and not worth the headaches. They need to give Ball, Farniok and even Alarcon a chance this offseason. And i mean a real chance, not like the one they gave Hajrullahu....:(

Dropping Collins was dumb regardless. But you have a point that it indicates they must like Ball or someone on the roster behind Steele.

Steele is better than a swing T. He has *already* been a meh to ok starter, and at his age, he's got at least a couple years more that we should expect improvement.

Ball probably does have the higher ceiling - but lower floor too, with his off the field issues.

G is a very likely pick. Generally get a starter quality G in the first two rounds. Certainly in the first. We need bodies and we need a starter. Seems like the draft board is lining up for us to get a G too.

perhaps, but how can Ball step in day 1 and take over? He hasn't played
Parsons took a year off...at least Ball practiced, studied game film and will have
Preseason games. Steele is a good insurance policy.

Ball arguably doesn’t deserve a spot on this roster. The offensive line needs serious improvement, & not only do his off-the-field actions reflect poorly (very violent) on the organization, but he has no play to show for himself.
Yes, let’s take him to the Gallows immediately, that will teach him!

His injury limited him and I don’t think anybody has any ideal about what kind of player that he can become. I started looking for information about him right after the draft and I continued looking for any updates about him. I can honestly say that I couldn’t find any information or updates about him since he was drafted. With his off the field issues, I think they are keeping really quiet about him with the hope that the media forgets about his past. I don’t know much about him, but the information that I have found indicates that he could be a steal if he plays up to his ability.

You must have missed the memo after the draft, we don’t bring up off-field stuff on draft picks under threat of ban. We only talk about potential for our guys.

Steele may be as good as the current version of Collins, but I seriously doubt that Steele will ever be as good as Collins was when he was playing at his best.

Considering how Collins’ level of play has declined due to injury, laziness and coming to camp out of shape and over weight, I don’t Dallas lost much.
