Sounds like they need tougher coaches.
I’m more concerned with mental toughness than physical
We didn’t lose games by being pushed around as much as we beat our selves multiple times with penalties, mental mistakes

The absurdity of that last sentence made me laugh. You dislike Jerry so much your speculation sounds emotional.

You guys defend Jerry's stupidity so much you cannot tell the difference between a joke about his stupidity and the facts about his stupidity.

Because unfortunately things that sound like a joke are reality more often than not when talking about Jerry.

Examples

Jerry got arrested for driving a way from a cop on his way to church.

He has a 27 year old love child he paid the same as his punter.

He got drunk and told people on camera that he hired Bill Parcels to trick Arlington into giving him a stadium.

He took pictures of him fondling teen age strippers and then said the pictures were misconstrued.

All these things really happened ..... And sound made up.

You said if Jerry found a drug addict woman beater who abandons his children, he’d be in heaven. I said that was so absurd it made me laugh, and you say that’s defending Jerry?!? SERIOUSLY?!? Of course it was a joke. I laughed!

So 31 teams in 1992-1993 were really soft teams? Cause what you said Dallas did to everybody those 2 years.

Sorry, I don't subscribe to the "Dallas is a soft team" view. Teams like that don't go 12-5, even if most of those wins were against lower-echelon teams....
Let it go man, that was last century

By now, it’s safe to say that the Dallas Cowboys have for far too long been one of the softest teams in the league. Opponents talk about it, commentators notice it. This team has lacked physical and mental toughness for far too long. We need to address it more directly.

With that in mind, we should be using a lot of premium draft capital on offensive and defensive linemen. Why is that so critical for toughness? Let us count the ways:
  • You can’t be physically tough if you’re getting pushed around. When a team can control the line of scrimmage- on either side of the ball- it can impose its will on the opponent.
  • Finding talent at WR is waaaaaaaay easier than finding talent at most other positions.
  • Unless there’s a WR available with Jerry Rice-like generational talent, avoid another first round WR.
  • By making our trenches more dominant, it builds confidence and mental toughness.
  • You can’t be mentally tough if you know your opponent is beating you on the LOS.
Football is a game of fundamentals at its core. If you can block and tackle your opponents better than they can, you have a great shot at being a tough team. Finesse is good to have too. But it is more of an add in than a fundamental. And it cannot replace brute strength. We need to get some more trench talent in our quest to be tougher.

Good post Bob. Winning football games is done in the trenches. And toughness starts there.

The only toughness our players showed in the past is when they had to negotiate their new contracts.

thats my thing. We need bad dudes in the trenches. Thugs. High FB IQ thugs that will maul ya. Both sides of the line. Another words, we need a few more guys like Micah and Kearse.

Several SF players said before the playoff game that they intended to physically dominate Dallas. Even with that “bulletin board material” motivator the Cowboys on both sides of the ball got physically whipped all day.

If an opponent mocks you verbally before the game by telling you exactly what they’re going to do, then follows that up and does exactly what they predicted, you’re a really soft team.
Not only did San Fran's players say it, most of the talking heads were saying it too. It's sickening. We need to toughen up so bad.

lmao, you guys still haven't woken up and seen the writing on the wall. Dallas is what it is, a bottom-tier team that has seen its glory days and they are long past them now.
smh

Does that make you a fair weather, bandwagon Dallas fan, or an ABD fan?

So being right about that particular speculation validates every doom-n-gloom forecast of yours? Forever?!? That’s nice. Conversely, since I DIDN’T scream “Garrett sucks” everyday, I’m wrong about everything ever after? But that’s just science, right?

@Bobhaze This is a brilliant thread idea.

But the sad part is that the way the game has changed, it is harder now than ever to measure toughness.

100% agree that we need to draft for it since we certainly aren't going to find it in free agency

Those 70s teams were called “finesse” because they had the most innovative schemes and were the MOST prepared team each week. But they were loaded with tough players. Bob Lily, Jethro Pugh, Randy White, Lee Roy Jordan, Cornell Green, Roger Staubach, Rayfield “Big Cat” Wright, Billy Joe DuPree, even Drew Pearson- were all tough as nails.

Agreed. And that was my point, it's players not "teams" that are tough.
