My thinking is, is that we can't get much worse at the GM position, so give Troy a shot!
Not much to lose.
Yea , I’m not sure everyone read the entire article. Troy said his time had probably passed to be a GM but added he still felt he could offer his services in some capacity in front office.

I’m just not sure how any Cowboy fan wouldn’t commend Troy for offering his services in some form to help the Cowboys.

It was sarcasm/joke.
I know. My post was to you, but not for you. Its for all of those that actually think the Aikmen, LaFleure thing was Aikmen's doings. He was set up to fail by the front office. One TE, no choice.

That's the way I remember it. Basically no choice.

Troy Aikman has watched the Cowboys’ endeavors from the broadcast booth a close eye on the organization. As a member of the FOX broadcast team, he’s commented on Dallas’ decisions during games while popping up now and then to criticize his former team.

“I thought my skills would be better used in the front office, but then my personal circumstances changed,” Aikman said. “And as I was talking about earlier with my girls, I became a single father when they were quite young and I was raising them and I just felt that it would be extremely selfish on my part to pursue a career as an executive knowing the amount of time that was required.”

Now 55 years old, Aikman noted the league’s trend of hiring younger guys for GM positions. He hasn’t completely closed the door on being of help to an NFL front office, though.

“I think the GM road has probably passed but what I wouldn’t rule out is at some point in time, whether that’s with Dallas, now they’ve not reached out to me, or if it’s with some other club,” Aikman said. “I could see having some kind of role to where I do think that I have something to offer that I think could really help a club if utilized and used the right way and if it was, it might be something down the road I would consider.”

As a player i think Aikman is way overrated. But as a human being i like him a lot.

he has always been very tough on Jones' leadership style. If he were to agree to a GM position in Dallas now, he would lose all my respect.

I wouldn't mind it at all. I'm just not sure where he would help. Jerry has his SOP and no one is changing that. If Jerry steps aside completely, it will be for his son.

I think the best thing Aikman could bring is his no nonsense attitude towards the organization. He doesn’t baby anyone and demands perfection. That’s why he loved Jimmy so much. It doesn’t have to be Aikman building the whole thing he just has to change the mindset.

Would be an amazing moment in time if Aikman and Jerry were to come together, but the only way TA would ever even consider such a move is if he convinced Jerry to step back and give him total control of all personnel.
Total authority, and that means all SJ does is worry about the money and how to pay the bills.
Thats why this is a fantasy, because Troy is too smart for Jerry.

If I dont have a clue about his skill-set for the job (dont even know the job for that matter) - how can I say if it would be a welcome addition or not.

Now if he would be put in a position where he can affect the culture of this team, then hell yeah I'd love to have him cause he's old school like Jimmy and Bill.
exactly, I think it is odd for troy to bring this up when he just signed a big contract to work for espn !
Is he going to walk out on that deal??
By the time that contract is up he will be 60.
If he wanted to be GM somewhere he should have just quit broadcasting and make it known he wants to interview for GM type jobs even assist a GM.
Then see if anyone bites, give it a couple of seasons, and if no one is interested go back to broadcasting.

The way he did it is just saying he might be interested lol , that isnt going to get a lot of attention, and no way jerry would hire him.
Why not? well if he did and cowboys got better and won a SB who would be credited for that?.....Aikman and we all know jerry cant have that.

Nice idea but Jerry isn't giving up his gig for anyone, not even Aikman. I do think that Dak could benefit a great deal having Aikman as his QB coach, but I doubt Aikman would take the job. He would rather coach someone who truly has a passion for winning and I don't think Dak fits that category.
Probably the most ignorant post accusation towards Dak. Ever. Dak is quite the opposite, always doing whatever it takes to improve himself, and he is one of the biggest competitors on the team who truly wants to win every single game. I mean what other QB in the history of the NFL has ever spent millions to build his own top-of-the-line turf (same turf as the Cowboys have at AT&T Stadium) football field to practice on in his backyard???

I’m not sure you read the entire article. Troy said he didn’t necessarily want the GM job. As a matter of fact he felt at his age that opportunity had probably passed him by .

But he felt he could contribute in some capacity in front office . Troy didn’t provide any indication he was looking for total control. I’d interpreted him to mean more of a consultant.

Right . But Troy isn’t looking for total control. He appears to only want to provide some advice or consultation . I’m not sure where the harm in that could be?

That’s just the thing though. He’s not necessarily saying he wants the GM job. He is more interested in providing some contribution to front office in more of a consultant role. That was my take .

Troy has openly spoke about his interest working in a front office before. And as he said he feels the GM position at his age has probably passed him by .

And yes, we realize all of the reasons and agendas why our dysfunctional ownership probably wouldn’t be interested .

But IMO the bigger story here is that Troy is offering his services in whatever front office capacity as he feels he could make a contribution. I’m not sure how any Cowboy fan wouldn’t salute such intentions.
