Nice idea but Jerry isn't giving up his gig for anyone, not even Aikman. I do think that Dak could benefit a great deal having Aikman as his QB coach, but I doubt Aikman would take the job. He would rather coach someone who truly has a passion for winning and I don't think Dak fits that category.

Jerruh won’t even give up his gig to his own children.

No way Jerry brings Troy to Dallas as an executive. He's not part of the "jerry friendly" bubble in Dallas and openly criticizes Jerry and the team on national TV. Even if he is right most of the time, Jerry would still hold a grudge.

Because he was asked?
And that means he has to give that answer? That is a poor excuse for people saying the wrong things.

I can assure you there are people at ESPN that did not like that answer. They didn't agree to get him for him to openly interview for a front office job in the NFL. They are betting a lot on this to fix MNF.

Booger is petty and vindictive and Aikman even insinuating this is on him cinches he will never be asked to join the Cowboys.

Think Booger is going to forget that interview at the DFW Airport when Aikman just stopped short of calling him out as the problem. Anyone could read between the lines on that and I'd bet Booger was fuming.

Johnson has called him out which is why he's not in the ROH.

I think Aikman may be selling himself short with the age issue.
There are at least a dozen head coaches over 55 (three over 60).
Belichick is doing HC and defacto GM - and he will be come 70 in a week.
I'm sure there are some GMs in their 50s.
I get him entering the front office at a late stage is his drawback; but Aikman has still been connected to the league through broadcasting - observing and garnering knowledge about franchise operations (and the changes over the two decades since he retired) through his work.
I doubt he's thinking he's too old, just too removed from the game. He probably doesn't think years as a broadcaster is the experience teams will look for.

Lynch with 49ers, Elway also come to mind. I’m sure there’s many more. Several become head coaches who serve both roles.

According to a report I saw over 60% of GM’s are former scouts. The rest are former players or accounting background.

But the bigger point here is Aikman isn’t asking to be GM but merely make a contribution in front office .
Aikman is a fool. What kind of contribution does he think he could make that would make a difference? Booger is the King and the King does what he wants.

He should know better than to think he could make any difference. Hell, McClay does all he can and still gets ignored when Booger wants to do something.

All anyone has to do is take another look at that war room when it was evident that not only did his son want to take the trade but that most of those in attendance did and it went silent and Booger said no, take McGovern, and that was that.

Meanwhile we have Jerry as GM. Going on a quarter century of failure
Jerry and Booger don't see it that way. They see it as a success. They look at it in a true business-like way, profits and losses. They brought AT&T into the fold and made $$ hand over fist, have a brand new Stadium , all the big name sponsors etc. They make a killing JUST FROM THOSE THINGS ALONE. I didnt even mention the concession stands & profits they make, cheerleader merch and that $, and lastly, the biggest thing, the product on the field each Sunday. See the issue? As long as THEY see the $ flowing they have 0 reason to change a thing. In their mind its a HUGE success and winning is only a side bar goal. The fans are all but forgotten and not really needed under this business model. The ticket prices are set so that only corporations and their employees can attend the games, not joe and jane fan. Its killing the team and the league. I hope Troy stays away from Dallas. They don't really wanna win that bad...unless their some benefit in it for the Joneses.

The Jones boys want to win just not with the credit going to someone else. Thats why they keep such a tight grip on everything. Next time we make the super bowl it is very important for Jerry to be able to say " I built that" or its Jimmy Johnson all over again...... Jerry's worst nightmare.

That’s just the thing though. He’s not necessarily saying he wants the GM job. He is more interested in providing some contribution to front office in more of a consultant role. That was my take .

Yes you are right. I just needed to get that out of my head.

well yeah, we all knew this. I didnt think we needed to rehash it...but I guess if Troy is ok with all that, it may work, but highly unlikely. They arent likely to change anything that gets in the way of their massive $$$ making machine(profit margins) that Jerry has branded. Winning be damned.

My point is that it is NOT about the money. Jerry is worth more than he and his next 4 generations can spend. He doesn't care about more money at his age. It is about who gets credit when/if the team makes a super bowl run. If the NFL had no salary cap to manage, Jerry would be out there signing every Dieon Sanders and Charles Haley available. He's got way more money now than back in the early 90's.

there's a caveat^ to the Joneses wanting 2 win. Will winning get in the way of their "proven business model?" that cap boy has in place? If Cap Boy thinks profits will be reduced even just a bit, hes not willing to do that extra and spend that extra to win. He's shown this. Case and point. Stevie is sitting on at least 20 million right now that he can spend. HE HASN'T!! WHY? My theory is we are tanking...and he will roll that $$ over to next year so we can get Sean P. It stinks. Mike M is a lame duck HC. Wasting another year of Micahs talents. If I'm Troy, I'm never coming back to Dallas in any manner. The Jones Clan runs it all, all the way down to the media here.

its always been the $. If $ wasnt an object we would have signed Wagner and Miller. Jerry would have if he was actually making the lone decision. But he's not. Stevie is dime store shopping. Cant win like that. Why would he change that? The profits' are ^ every year regardless of results.

Que the Aikman gave his approval to draft LaFleur posts.

Didn't Troy also veto signing Joe Horn in favor of trading for Joey Galloway after Michael Irvin got hurt?

I remember hearing this last year around the time there was a lot of chatter that we were going to draft Jaycee Horn (Joe's son). Apparently the pro personnel department asked Aikman to look at Joe Horn's Kansas City film and Troy said he didn't have the goods.

Long story short, next year Joe Horn breaks out for 90, 1300, and 8 TDs and Joey Galloway just breaks.

Troy for as great of a player as he was, STINKS evaluating talent. Lets leave that to the scouts and Will McClay. Troy would be great as a Liasson between Jerry and the players in that capacity. He wanted David Lafleur, Kavika Pittman(DE). That actually happened.
