How’s everyone feeling about the team as of right now?

Personally speaking, I am still finding it really hard to be excited about things. Usually I’ll get pretty amped up for the draft and find a sliver of hope as to how the team can/will be good during the upcoming season. Right now though, I just don’t have it.

I’ve never been this emotionally detached from the Cowboys. I thought the dejection after the 49er game catastrophe would subside, but it hasn’t.

I’ve religiously watched the Cowboys since I was 7 years old, and that won’t change. But I just can’t find it in me to me excited about anything concerning the team or organization. I can appreciate when they play well during the regular season, but at the end of the day, I (and any reasonable fan) want/need more. And as currently constructed, a few good regular season performances is the absolute best we can hope for from this team. Because once January rolls around, we all know how the script plays out.

I don’t know. I guess I wanted to do a general check in with you guys and see where you’re at. And maybe some of you can help me find something to be optimistic or excited about.

Dallas went 12-5 last year not 5-12 and I expect them to build off of this experience and be in the thick of the race. This team still has many good players on it and I expect they will battle. I get the dejection from getting beat in post season all I can say if you get knocked down you get back up, dust yourself off and get back to work.

Eh, I used to be big in ncaa basketball and pro baseball but I lost all interest in them over the last 5 years or so. My interest in football is waning as well. Not only because our team is toast but for several reasons which I won’t mention.

So far, the Bengals made it to the Super Bowl, Identified the OL as a weakness and addressed it in FA and we got worse. No, I'm not excited.

Apples to oranges though.

Bengals have been notoriously bad and notoriously cheap.

They have plenty of cap as they typically don’t re-sign big contracts or free agents.

They started spending two off seasons ago. They also have all of their stars on offense on rookie deals outside of Mixon and Boyd

QB - Burrow? Rookie deal
LT - Jonah Williams? Rookie deal
WR - Chase? Rookie deal
TE - No $$$ spent

It’s what the Chiefs were able to do. Now that Mahomes contract is kicking in, they are losing a few players. They better win it with Burrow in his rookie deal. When he and Chase are to be paid all I can say is good luck.

26 years, Dak was on a rookie contract and we did nothing, one playoff win.

Not a single word in that post said anything Dallas does or done is a good method.
It's apples to apples, they're both football teams with the same salary cap and the same options in FA and the draft as any other team. We decided that Dak was a franchise QB and accomplished nothing with his rookie contract. It has been the same rinse and repeat for 26 years.

Correct.

But you don’t see a lot teams with second contract QBs going wild in free agency.

So we can’t just say we tank, get the first overall pick in two seasons, free up all of our cap then go crazy in three seasons.

I am detached. I have woodworking projects, Spring projects and I have several long rides planned on my Harley for the next 5 months. I'll check in on the first day of the draft and watch Goodell announce our pick and then I'll go back to my regularly scheduled life. Then around August, I'll catch back up with the team and I'll plan a day around our first regular season game (I may watch a little preseason if I have nothing going on) and then my season of irritation will start when I see this team under achieve...again.

Like I said, they wasted his rookie contract. As I said originally I'm not excited.

They can win the Super Bowl just like every other team in the playoffs. This is the modern NFL. The odds are against every team. They play 20 games. It cracks me up the comments that everybody makes about these players that we have no idea who will be healthy at the end of the year and who will be knocked out each and every week.
Yep, parity is real.
It's also real that we are only one of 3 teams not to have a NFCC appearance in the last 25 years.
That's a fact and not an opinion.
Is that the way the ball bounces or lack of professional leadership ?
You make the call.
I go with amatuers running the team.

I can tell you I feel deflated as ever this off-season. I don't know, I guess I used up my energy this last season getting fooled (once again) by a team that looked the part, but again did nothing. To top it off, the front office stole what air I had left in my sails with their fabulous off-season "additions". I used to be the positive fan that looked to a fresh season with a reloaded outlook. After year 25 of the same song and dance, my enthusiasm tank is running close to empty.

Once bitten twice shy...........errrrr.......twenty five times bitten, twice shy?

People ask "then why follow them?" Well, my mom raised me as a Cowboys fan, and I came into a team that had a storied history and was still carving out their place in NFL history. You can't just turn an off switch on a team you grew up to love, though believe me, there are days I wish I could. Instead of the respected team I grew to love, they're now largely considered a joke. I always have people ribbing me about the team "they won't make the playoffs" "well, they'll lose in the first round" "they'll lose against the *insert good team* this weekend" and they're usually right. I get tired of it. Just once I would like say "ah, not so fast!".

Ok, now you guys got me depressed this morning.

I have never been less interested. I come to this board, to chat with friends. exchange thoughts. but I am not looking forward or excited about the draft. I am not excited about training camp or season and if you asked me today, I probably won't be interested or excited to watch the games. I just don't care any more.

For me it’s that despite my frustrations, I still really enjoy keeping up with the team. I love football in general, but I was raised with the Cowboys so it’s deeply ingrained in me.

I may get mad when things go badly, but I still have loyalty and hope that they’ll be great again. It’s hard to explain.

Also, I have only a couple real hobbies and interests in my life. One being the Cowboys. So if I gave that up, I’d be bored out of my mind

why are you not able to create new threads?

I completely identify with your reply!
