Because he lost Cooper. I think some people are underestimating the impact this might have.

I think it was a huge blow losing Cooper. But it is what it is. It doesn't mean that Lamb won't hit his third year stride and turn into a true number one. That's what they're gambling on.

No surprise, especially considering it appears $40M is now the floor for starting QB getting a new deal.

Jerry Jones Was Asked If He Regrets Dak Prescott’s Contract

Last offseason, Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with $126 million in guaranteed salary.

Thirteen months later, Jerry Jones has no buyer’s remorse.

Reflecting on the deal with USA Today‘s Jori Epstein, the Dallas Cowboys owner said he’s happy to have the 28-year-old quarterback for 2022 and beyond.
Jerry would swim with sharks, get partially eaten and then say it was the greatest experience as long as the money kept coming in.

Lol what’s he supposed to say?

Id rather have Baker Mayfield at half price and he’s not even that good. Problem with Dak is they can’t build a good enough team around him while paying him.
Exactly. We would be better off paying for a great OL.

When it comes to negotiating player contracts, the Cowboys FO would do well to relegate it to someone more adept at handling it. Of course, Jerry could never admit to something like that. He much prefers to try to persuade one and all that he and Stephen can handle it. This front office stumbled around far too long to have their best chance at reaching a far more reasonable agreement. Admitting as much would never suit Jerry's ego. And so, it goes.
